Not when Lawrence first came in, though. We had all that really interesting stuff about Lawrence fancying Robert, and not wanting Chrissie to marry him because he was basically jealous, and then that fantastic reveal that Robert had been playing him for a fool all along.

Then the whole fascinating thing got shoved aside so Robert could go off and make Aaron cry. The first story was WAY better.
It was ONE scene - a show that puts out 6 half hour episodes a week and it was all quickly referenced & shoved aside in ONE scene.

I agree, it had the potential to be something interesting - but I absoluteley won't give credit to a whole history being sidelined with ONE scene!

Well there were some lead up scenes, where Lawrence was clearly not keen on the marriage, and some hints that he might fancy Robert, but yep, it was mainly one (very good) scene. And then they ditched it really. I'm still convinced they changed the whole White family trajectory to fit in Robert's dalliance with Aaron. Lawrence has honestly had almost nothing to do, which is weird for a high profile casting.

It's a shame - I'm sure they meant to do more with their mutual hostility. That's why I hope they revisit Lawrence's past in some form.

Thats right. Then she sent him a video of her sitting on a beach drinking a cocktail
She started out as a church going friend of Edna and was a bit mouset to begin with.
I think they turned her into a good character. Well, I enjoyed watching her anyway.

Spoiler
That will do. Time both of them had a decent storyline of their own.
As long as they don't make it farcical comedy like they usually do with
Spoiler

I did read that they would be revisiting this in some way soon.
In regards to chemistry - I think Robert and Aaron have buckets of chemistry together and both actors get on well with each other which is one of the reasons why they work so well together and are comfortable with the kissing scenes as they have stated in interviews. Aaron and Jackson had very little chemistry.
I never see any real chemistry with Debbie and Ross though to be fair I do not remember seeing any chemistry with Debbie and any of her partners. She seems a bit of a cold fish in that respect.
I don't know how Debbie manages to trap all these men. She never seems to be much fun and yet they flock to her in their droves.

She does seem cold - well except when she was with Jasmine.

[Waits for str to come in and post "Oi!"

Wasn't there some suggestion Eric had bumped one wife off in the past?

They've mellowed him a lot since so probably would never revisit something too hardcore for him but I'm sure I recall that...
Yes Elizabeth, the rumours implied that he used the airplane crash to cover that up They revisited that storyline when they brought her son Michael back. He believed that Eric had killed his Mum but Eric explained the events of her death
Yes - they left it hanging to look like he had killed her.

I think Denise Black and John Bowe are both very natural actors.
I find them believable no matter what character they are playing in whatever show/film.

I'm hoping Joanie's appearance won't lead to a return of the orange faced mumbling Amy.
I had to have subtitles on during her entire stint in the show because she mumbled so much that her lines were ununtelligible.

With regards to Lawrence and

At least we have the cure for homosexuality - a stint in prison appears to cure it according to Kate Oates!

As for Robert & Aaron regarding chemistry - the problem is, that's ALL they have.
ED has gone all out to "prove" that Danny Miller can create chemistry with a man (although we already knew that as it comes across in his scenes with Adam) - so they have delivered a storyline that has been about nothing more than snogging, lingering looks, pre & post coital scenes.
Narratively, Robert & Aaron has been nothing more than delivering homoerotic imagery & screenshots. The fans have lapped it up.
Even during the next part of this upcoming storyline where
Spoiler

Whilst Danny & Marc failed to create any believable "chemistry" between them as a relationship couple - they did, however, both manage to create characters with depth, motivation & believable emotion during the assisted suicide storyline.

The show keeps touting Aaron & Robert as some kind of love-story - and yet neither actor has managed to convey this with any believablity beyond the homoerotic image.

Even Aaron's most recent fall back into self-harming was little more than Danny being made to look all sexily sweaty (more like he was off to do a photoshoot with gay mag Attitude), than portraying a character who was desperately intent on seriously harming himself.

Having chemistry is one thing - creating a believable & compelling narrative is another.

Great post.

bib1: You could add "with Aaron keeping his top on throughout"

bib2: again . Coincidentally, Danny has done an Attitude photoshoot previously..I hope that Michael Parr follows in his footsteps!

edit: Regarding Elizabeth Pollard, I think it turned out that Eric did plan to kill her, but the plane crash saved him the job, as she was struck and killed by some wreckage.

I'm not fussed about the return of Kyle - because there are far too many kids in the soap for my liking, but I can put up with him because I like Denise Black and her portrayal of Joanie.

I do wonder if there is a plan for Denise Black to become a regular.

As we have said, she's an older lady who has had a life pre Emmerdale.
That means there could be people from her past who could be introduced to create new characters and new storylines [ not Amy again though please.]

And she could be linked with an older single man in the show to make a good double act. Laurence, Rodney or even Eric later on when he's got over Val's exit - however she goes out.

Yeh, I think her character has many possibilities.

Speaking of Amy - anyone know what Chelsea Halfpenny has been doing since she left Emmerdale?

I googled her - she's just done a few bits and bobs at the Yorkshire Playhouse.

or are they guest at a wedding that is doomed and the black clothes are symbolic?
If its a funeral, interesting that Ruby and Dan are together in it.
Does Ali die?

I have read that producers would have her back if she wanted to return. I imagine there would be many storyline possibilities now Kyle is living in the village.

There is a theory that each little group is mourning one of their own family or close friend. I think the black teddy throwing is hinting at either

I would like Joannie to stay in the show; but we would always be looking over our shoulder for the return of Amy, so perhaps we shouldn't risk it.

I think Joanie has been brought in as Val is leaving and Lisa has vanished for her yearly few months off. Need to fill that 'older' lady quota.

I've missed an episode or two this week - has it been said where Lisa is?

Last I seen, she was mithering over Belle because Hamish was unwell - now she seems to have vanished and no-one seems bothered?

You mean you would always be looking over your shoulder for the return of Amy.. I couldn't care less whether she's there or not. And just because you don't like her, doesn't mean everyone has the same opinion as you. In fact I know a lot of people (on this forum and in real life) who were sorry she left and would like her to come back.

She is looking after some old lady who feel off a chair and broke her leg. Can't remember her name specifically.

Yes, me for one!

Since it was announced that Joanie was returning for Kyle I have been eagerly awaiting the announcement that Amy is also returning.

Just a shame there is no chance of my favourite Robbie returning.

She does seem to have a regular habit of rushing off to look after other people - wasn't it Lizzie the last time

No problem

It was, and she does

She appears to have a lot of friends outside the village.

Isnt it Granny Clegg or something? Member of the Dingle family. Lisa went off two years ago to look after her too. Last year it was Lizzie.

With regard to soaps depiction of gay men, I don't think you will ever see a normal gay couple in love, living together as anyone else, with normal worries like anyone else. Two gay men in a soap have to be full of secrets, angst, temper, or dark and nasty- and whatever else the scriptwriters can throw into the mix, purely to bounce off storylines. Having said that, I accept it and enjoy Robron ( as other posters put) as I know thats the set-up.
It just won't happen that you will ever see a gay couple in a soap just living their lives together.

I'd have to get the subtitles on again then if she does come back.

It is looking more like Joanie has come to fill in Val's 'older lady' shoes, as artyattack says, rather than to herald a return of Amy.

Ahh - thank you

Yes, she disappears to visit either Granny Clegg - who I assume is her Mother, or Lizzie.

Regarding Lizzie, it's such a shame that the actress is so ill. I find her to be an inspiration. All the terrible tragedy life threw at her and she just kept going gamely on until now when her ill health has clobbered her well and truly.
I believe she is still waiting for an organ transplant.

I may have told this story before, but in case anyone didn't get to read it back then, I'll tell it again. I think people might enjoy reading it.

I was at a charity event and was fortunate enough to meet Kitty McGeever who played her.
We sat together at a little table for a while just chatting. Just us two.
She told me that she had been given an organ transplant but instead of her body rejecting the organ, the organ had rejected her!!!
She took it in her stride and treated it as 'just one of those things' that are typical of her, an 'all the crap happens to me' kind of attitude - and she was able to laugh about it.
Which she did. Heartily.
She was very earthy, and very nice.
She told me about her working relationship with Joe Gilgun [Eli Dingle] and what great fun she had with him both on set and out and about.

And this may come as a shock to many of you but she also spoke very fondly of Charley Webb - whom she called "Webbo" - and she told me of all the jolly nights out they had shared and how much fun "Webbo" was.

She spoke of her blindness as if it was a minor irritation.

I will never forget that meeting and I will always admire her for her guts, determination and her absolute love of life. An inspirational lady.

PS
And she looked great, too. Had on a bright green dress, a 50's style one with a fitted body and a sticky-out skirt. With a matching green bow in her hair.

Ive just watched that Trailer again.

Don't they all look gorgeous!!

Yeh - black bouquet for Debbie = doomed wedding.

Black teddy bear thrown at Priya = a baby tragedy.

Ruby and Dan together. No Kerry, no Ali. Hmmmmm

And Diane does have a strange look on her face.

Aaron has a smirk as he follows Robert and Chrissie too, so he's obviously up to something.

oooh it's good isn't it!!?
