Sammy Winward got the role of Katie when she was fifteen, at that time she was quite a pretty girl, her looks improved in emmerdale. SO I do not believe she got the job for looks or in Prey, Most posters on the emmerdale boards do not really concern themselves in fandom, we watch and post about a program we enjoy, not the actors. I know I do not know what happens after they leave, most of the time I dont care
I'm not into fandom either. There's those characters I like or dont like but once they've gone i forget about those characters and move on with the show. But i do like to hear about the ones i liked getting a new role away from their soap. Too many soap actors dissapear from our screens once they leave a soap and that does nothing to help the reputation of the acting in soaps. Because of this and the negative opinions of the quality of acting in soaps I am sure this puts off good actors from auditioning for soaps so that leads us to having to put up with too many really crap actors. We've had a few success stories with ex soap actors but we need more of them to help start turning round negative opinions about soaps and start attracting better quality actors. |

Analysis of Emmerdale Characters.
Firstly last night was unusually busy with enough plot for several episodes, normally it might take several episodes of dithering and going round in circles for what Brenda did last night 1) Brenda - Analysis Central is breaking the habit of its entire existence and is in the unusual position of having to praise Brenda this episode, she was appalled to hear all the bad news and even worse news from Bob she hit Val and took decisive action by calling the police and being there to gloat when Val and Bob were arrested, good job by Lesley Dunlop and Kwynne is shocked to have to say that. 2) Bob - liked his i'm going to tell you bad news and then even worse news thing, felt too guilty not to say anything anymore even at the expense of his daughter. 3) HiVILeVal - The smug smile was certainly wiped of her face this ep wasn't it. 4) Carly isn't all bad she cares about her dad sometimes but its hard to feel sympathy for it. 5) Rakesh proved how bad a lawyer he is. 6) Tracy starting to like her, fun character most of the time, seems to be quite good at her job even if she did make a terrible mistake. 7) Jimmy - in the right financial do do with not having insurance and hiring an illegal immigrant. 8Aaron - will wonders never cease he smiled this ep and had good news. The Mystery of the Scrap Yard Nobody ever works there and Adam and Aaron are never in the same place at the same time and Robert is always getiing in their way so to speak yet the yard is making a nice profit and winning business awards how is this possible. 9) Robert happy to make money and look smug 10) Chrissie - what has she done to her hair it makes her look a decade older. 11) Lawrence couldn't find any viable businesses in the emmerdale area maybe he's boozing in the wrong pub |

Wyezed - do you still watch Emmerdale? The reason I ask is because all you ever do is moan about how bad it is, including harping on about what a rubbish producer Kate Oates is. I used to watch all the big 3 but as soon as I realised I disliked more about EE and Corrie than liked I stopped watching them. Life's too short to waste time watching progammes I don't enjoy.

BIB: Rakesh didn't prove how bad a lawyer he is. I work for a law firm and each lawyer specialises in one area of law and couldn't do the job of a lawyer who specialises in different areas, eg a residential conveyancing lawyer couldn't do the job of a criminal defence lawyer because they don't have the specialised knowledge of it. Rakesh is a corporate lawyer and doesn't have the specialised knowledge in other areas. This does not make him a bad lawyer, it makes him a normal lawyer.

True but being happy doing what you're doing for a living is the most important factor for some people. And some actors might even prefer touring than being stuck in the same theatre.
Though it kind of contradicts what you have posted before about actors staying in Soaps.

Yes. It's surprising how many people think that all solicitors cover all areas - I see it a lot in my job (secretary). Trying to explain that this isn't the case can be quite difficult at times particularly if it relates to a sensitive matter. I have to be professional but not cold if that makes sense.

I agree with this post.
Though it kind of contradicts what you have posted before about actors staying in Soaps. ![]() ![]() By all means if an actor is happy with their lot working year after year after year in a soap then who am I to say they should one day try their luck away from a soap. I just think those who do that will miss out on a big part of being an actor doing different types of roles in different types of productions. But there is a lot to say for the job security in a soap especially in the world of acting. |

Though, when all the popular or long-serving characters get killed when they decide to leave it's easy to see why some might not be willing to take the risk. |

Wow. Brenda went mental last night, I loved her calling the police on them both.
She can be good with decent material and she appears to be the only character involved in this storyline who hasn't been hurt by it. It hasn't done Bob or Val any favours and it certainly hasn't helped integrate Carly into the show. |

I agree, when she's given decent material she can pull it out of the bag. I cheered when the police turned up at the pub and arrested Val and Bob! It was worth it just to see that smug smile being wiped off Val's face.

I can understand it's scary thought leaving a soap after being in it for many years with the possibility your character might be killed off. But even though she wasn't sure at the timr Sammy Winward now thinks it's the best thing that could have happened to her . It's made her work even harder and stops her from thinking about going back. She's also come to terms with not working all the time from now on . I am sure those longterm characters who weren't killed off has held back actors playing them once they leave their soap. Not cutting those ties and having that safety net and thinking about going back cannot do them any good when looking for new roles. I am sure some of those who do the hiring have this in the back of their mind as well.
![]() I'm hoping for good things for Natalie Anderson when she leaves. |

I see that but it's hard to take the risk when there is no guarantee you will ever get more work.

To be fair, I didn't even flaming mind Debbie!! Then they started shoving this Tragic Heroine Nonsense and General Pishery down my throat and I realised I wished Cameron had done her in.
![]() I'm sure I'll get over it, but I need a break from this daft flip-flopping between Pete and Ross. I DO NOT CARE. I was just starting to like Debbie and this nonsense with Dross begins. I cannot stand Dross, I can't see the point of him TBH. He was interesting when he was with Donna, but that was then, he has done nothing of interest since. As for him being Charity@s (spit) baby's father - Rubbish! I'm afraid Dross, Debbie and Charity are all in my "Sin bin", I detest all three of them. Trouble with Emmerdale is that there are far too many Dingles in the Dales, they need to be culled severely, starting with Charity (spit) and her daughter. As someone further up the thread said, I prefer Msurel and that load of cobblers was horrendous. |

Moira's always been good to Dross and THAT's how he repays her??? I like Debbie but she never has chemistry with anyone, except when she was cheating with Cameron. Neither has Dross IMO and the pair of them have been totally overused, especially Debbie - Charley must be shattered
