Sam has been in ED for so long now hes sort of replaced the Seth Armstrong character ( you wont know him as he was in it from the 70s up to around 2005 ( lovely character) and although he is always involved in all the episodes so along with any Sugden, is one of the old school characters now

Oh I've seen a few clips of Sam and can see the similarities, I really don't have a problem with Sam, I just can't see him carrying a major story.

James Hooton is one of the best actors in the programme. He doesn't sound, act or even look like Sam in real life.

I didn't say he wasn't a good actor I can't see the CHARACTER of Sam carrying a major story.

I know he's had some stories but he's hardly been a major daily player like Aaron, Cain, Ross or Debbie

His storyline with his wife Alice was one of Emmerdale's best. Sam is one of the best actors in the show.

It really was. He hasn't had a really big story for a long time, but when he's given something good to do, he really delivers. His scene with Ronnie the other day, where he talked about Alice, was really good.

I don't buy this argument that some characters are so big they should be front and centre all the time. The best stories can bring someone forward and really surprise you. Adam can be really good when he needs to be, for example. He was great in that stuff with Johnny.

Analysis of Emmerdale Characters

1) Ashley - Acting masterclass going on here from John Middleton, he is absolutely brilliant and can't get enough praise. Sadly he won't get any awards because they are given to crap actors like Aaron/Danny Miller who deserves none, bah humbug that makes me beyond furious

2) It must be said that Laurel is being played really well at present as well

But who is looking after baby Dottie and does Emmerdale even remember she exists

3) Poor mixed up messed up Gabby no wonder she goes off the rails so often, not going to find h being an internet star to easy either

And Gabby ruined yet another of laurels shoes.

4) Sandy was funny trying to get a free drink out of Charity

5) Liv isn't bad just misguided, liked Belle trying to tell her all the things she did at 15

6) Is Bernice calling the police on herself she is such a terrible mother.

7) Aaron and Robert even though they knew what had happened didn't bother tryand find Liv did they?

8) Belle now has the supposed wisdom of the ages.

He is proof of being a superb actor,,,,,,,,,,,Usually actors are vane and will not be changed..especially as much has the Sam actor has,,,,,,,,,,xx

Ashley & Laurel are both acted so well; although the scripts are wobbly lately, what they are given to work with they work it very well. The two of them are by far the best actors in soap as a soap couple.

Analysis of Emmerdale Characters

bit of a so so episode

1) Ashley or what remains of him hurt himself while locked up, now i'm no expert i'm sure everyone will agree but would someone with dementia not stop when they started feeling pain, or don't such people understand what pain is anymore>

2 Laurel dear stop locking Ashley in his room its only causing you terrible guilt as well as harming poor Ashley.

3) Gabby Being Bullied by nasty bullies who live in the village but we have never seen before

4) Liv defended her friend and then got shouted at by tear filled Aarsewipe

5) Jacob bratface don't ever listen to Frank.

6) Frank - I agree with Leyla he should be ousted immediately

7) Leyla and Vanessa, plot away girls plot away

8) Victoria baby and sex obsessed at present

9) No wonder Adam went and hid in a celebrity Jungle.

1) Before I get onto more decent storylines and characters I must officially declare I have joined the anti Tracy camp. She is here just to bore us with rubbish storylines and to make up the numbers, I used to like her but now I don't.

From what was said, tonight's episode is going to be a tough and heartbreaking watch.

This might sound silly but I' m dreading it. I think it's s going to be really sad. Well done to ED they' ve done a fantastic job with this story so far. I really feel after the last few eps, that we're ve lost 'our' Ashley now I' ve got friends who have seen parents succumb to dementia. It's a dreadful thing, whatever form it comes in.

Analysis central on last nights episode

To call this episode Brilliant would be both an understatement and wrong because in this sense because brilliant in this context is probably the wrong word but I don't know the right one so will leave it at that

If John Middleton and this episode don't win all the awards going it will be a travesty of all travesties.

We hear about Dementia all the time but none of us know what its really like, now after this episode we have a hint of it

My Gran had what Ashley had but in a sense she was lucky because she broke her hip and caught a hospital acquired superbug an died quickly while she still mostly knew who people were.

A few thoughts

1) Took me a while to work out the person he was with was Aaron. Using other actors to see Asleys confusing was very original

2) They should keep "Alt" Aaron he much better than the original

3) Alt Doug on the other hand was much worse.

4) Using the village where they filmed for years was inspired

5) Most people trying to help Aaron was nice
