I see that Kate Oates has stated in interviews yesterday that a character will be returning this autumn who will be a catalyst for a group of characters already in the show. I have no idea who it could be.

Agreed. What exactly is so bad about being in a soap? Why would it be considered a lesser job? Especially if it's ED? I'll tell you something, I would love a job on my favourite soap! I would pinch myself over how lucky I'd got and be so damned grateful to have had such an opportunity. Being a well known character on a top soap, on first name terms with all the characters I've watched and admired for years and a megabucks paycheque which even for one year is more than I'll ever see in my entire life, yes it's a really unenviable job isn't it? I seriously couldn't care less if I never went on to anything 'bigger', or indeed anything else full stop, the fact I'd actually been lucky enough to work in my favourite show would be more than enough for me. And if I could work on any soap? ED would be my one and only choice every time, I don't care how much 'bigger' the others are or make you, bigger doesn't mean better.
Nobody has ever said there's anything bad being in a soap. The argument is about accepting what level soaps (and I include shows like Holby) are at. They are above being in children's TV, afternoon dramas but that's about it.
If you'd be happy to be in a soap all your life then as an actor you'd miss out on most of what being an actor is all about. Acting was never meant to be about doing the same job with the same people on the same sets year after year after year. Its the acting eqivalant of working in a factory.
For those who think the acting is great just look at the gross ham scenes last night with Val Eric and Tracy. All flouncing hand waving camp as a row of tents panto shite. Onto gurning Dan and Ruby in the cafe. For the millionth time Ruby's acting consisted of pressing lips together, frown shakes head or shoulders then back to pressing lips together. Desperately bad acting that you would never get away with in any half decent drama

My immediate thoughts was Amy tbh. It'd affect Cain, Joanie, the Dingles probably what with their growing involvement with Kyle, Kerry, Eric etc.

I wondered if it would be Alicia as she's not been seen for a couple of months.

Dr Who nowadays is complete crap. Do people really still watch it?

Yes yes yes times infinity

Especially with Malcolm Tucker as the Doctor Peter Capaldi has always been one of my favourite actors

Is this a joke post?
Dr Who attracts quality well respected actors for guest roles and the budge is way above that of a soap. The writers are also very highly respected.
I'm not even a fan of Dr Who. Give me Z Nation every day of the week.
I see that got your attention.

The actors in it may be well respected but that doesn't mean they put in great performances, the hammy acting that you so detest is in Dr Who in abundance.

*shrugs* The little I have seen of it in recent times, it looked like a cheap children's show.

That sucks.

On the bright side, I expect there are still some surprises in store.

I would like it to be Emily, Butch Dingle's widow and Paddy's ex-wife, who went off to theological college. They need a locum vicar to assist Ashley while he is convalescent.

I just want to stick up for the actress who plays Ruby here. Alicya Eyo who plays her is an extremely strong actress, she has just been vastly underused in Emmerdale unfortunately.

She was in Bad Girls, and had a very prominent part in that and if you watch that you'll see that the actress is very convincing and capable with really emotive scenes and storylines. Indeed, she had a story where she was reunited with her mum in prison (who now plays Joanie in ED) and both actresses put in brilliant performances.

Charity returning is common knowledge though - Emma said in an interview at the end of her final episode before going on maternity leave that she'd be back a year later. I think it's someone we don't know about - I haven't a clue who though.

Bad Girls was trashy soap level tripe set in a prison. Sorry but her atrocious has nothing to do o with her character breing pointless and underused. She cannot do the very very basics of acting one of which is having some control over your facial expressions. If I was just havng a go at her for no reason you would be able to call me out as a liar but you can't because what I say is there on screen for anyone to check.
There was an episode of Friends which guest starred Jeff Goldblum. In that episode in his scenes with Joey they too the pee out of pompus actors and bad actors and acting.
Alicia's dire lip pressing, frowning, head and shoulder jiggling was exactly the kind of acting they were taking the pee out of. Like far too many of the really really bad soap actors she's full of ticks and simply does far far too much of what an actor is simply not supposed to be doing. If I was a struggling actor seeing her on a prime time tv show would annoy the hell out of me.

I hope not as it would be yet another ED actor returning after leaving to go onto bigger and better things.

Emma hasn't long had her baby, she is taking a year out so I don't think she is back for a while.

Amy.
I thankfully doubt it, as she's apparently got a new role on Casualty and is starting on a panto with Corrie's John Stape

Aaron is quite enough without Aaronetta returning too

I can't say I've seen much maturity from Aaron during this entire affair storyline.

He's behaved as if he has the moral high ground because Robert is gay - therefore his feelings for Robert are somehow more legitimate than Chrissie's.

He has lied to his friends & family - not only about the affair, but about the circumstance of Katie's death.
He knew what Katie thought was true whilst the entire village branded her as an obsessed lunatic. Has he even tried to apologise to Andy for that?

Has hasn't taken responsibility for "his" actions over the affair - merely "reacted" to Robert's actions.

His reasons for telling Chrissie about the affair were simply to engage with his own anger and hurt pride because the man he "loved" put a gun to his head.

Of course - he cried a lot and tried to self-harm - therefore he gets the sympathy vote "poor Aaron" - but in reality is just the same old "pity-me" Aaron that's always been.

And yeah - bashing a bottle over James's head was incredibly mature.

Aaron hasn't matured in the slightest - if anything, he has completely regressed since he came back from France.
Superb post. You're spot on.

I thought he had a terrible attitude with Chrissie last night, he was a right bitch and if a woman who was 'the other woman' had behaved in such a way with the wronged party she'd have been torn apart on the forums but Aaron seems to get off with it

Yes, exactly!! Good Lord. "Oh god, my married lover is spending time with his WIFE! Boo hoo!" Comes with the territory, mate, get over it.

Seriously, only Aaron could smash a bottle over someone's head and it's everybody's fault - Robert's, Chrissie's, James's - but never his.
This is seriously bewildering.

I like characters (e.g. Cain) but I ALWAYS call him out for it when he's been a total bastard, I don't make excuses. Punching someone is bad enough (and often understandable) but a glass bottle over someone's head?!?!?! FGS there's no excuse for that and is just thuggish behaviour.

Damn. I'll settle for just Aaron then. Though I suspect his copious tears will extinguish any fire and float him to safety.

Horrible little Lachlan is willing to risk his grandad health or life to get even with Robert, that is just evil
Oh I have no doubt it'll be excuseville city such as: "he's young, he didn't realise what he was doing, how dangerous it was" blah blah blah and he'll get off scott-free with it. Even though at his age I damn well know not to mess with people's meds. Expect a couple of shouts directed at him but nothing more I reckon.

Same thing happened to me in the early hours

I really wish they hadn't told us exactly what it is and kept it a secret. Can't they keep anything under wraps nowadays?

I struggled to find a name to suggest as I don't want Amy back. Another suggestion: Gloria, who used to help Edna with the church flowers.

Gloria, I remember her. She married Pollard, back when he was a devious, scheming git...she turned out to be just as bad as him.

She even became an MP at one point
