would Kate Oates dip even further back into the show than Nikhil or Paul and have a character from WAY back return to the village?

Seth had some sons.
Kathy had a brother.
Archie's body was never found...was it??
I doubt Kathy herself would be brought back because didnt the actress get sacked for opening her mouth about the people who won 'soap stars' or something. Although I suppose they could recast her.
Matt and Dolly had children.

But are any of these interesting enough to be brought back?
Maybe if they are as complex as they have made the returned Robert!!!!

Wonder who it will be.

It's simple human nature to want to try and progress.
The whole atrraction for being an actor is they have the chance to try so many different things during their career. It's a waste to not want to at least have one shot at making it away from soaps. Apart from actors in soaps there is no other people in the Arts who do the same thing day in day out year after year. Doing the same old thing would defeat the point of becoming an artist

Seeming as Chrissie seems to be leaving sometime soon for a month or so and the actress is staying on, I'd presume the next logical step would be for her to return with her sister. Especially as Rebecca has been mentioned regularly.

1] Not if you feel you have succeeded in where you want to be. Many people are happy with that. Not ALL are unsatisfied. Some are, and some want to be constantly challenged but not all.

2] Theatre performers, cabaret performers, comedy performers, all manner of performers in production shows do the same act night after night after night.
Some for year upon year with small variance.

And there are a thousand actors in Spotlight who specialise in playing the same kind of role. Yes they might play that role in different productions, but they repeat it over and over.

And many are more than happy to make a steady living out of that.





Many are just happy to be able to make a living from a job they love doing. And that's enough for them.

Yeh and they've announced John Bowe has signed on for another year's contract.

So, hopefully we'll get this new character.


Must be nice for writers to be able to draw up a character from scratch.

Unfortunately, there are so many things that find problematic about this kind of opinion, especially when we are living in a postmodern world which means that we should be treating the 'popular' with the same enthusiasm as the 'canon'.

Hundreds of people put a hell of a lot of effort every single day of the week into making Emmerdale a good TV show. Six episodes a week don't just appear out of thin air, they take months and months of hard-working and fine-tuning to get to that stage. Just because it hasn't had the luck or the good fortune of being bigged up by the US media and US award shows (because that really is what it comes down to) doesn't make it less of a show because of it.

An actress like Charlotte Bellamy is a world-class performer, irrespective of the fact that she's 'just' in a soap. Her ability as an actress isn't somehow diminished just because she doesn't happen to have a starring role in the latest Emmy winning TV show.

On the helicopter crash maybe this is me being too morbid.

But I would have had the reception finish as it was meant to, Debbie and Pete enter the helicopter, and jjust whenit flys over the scrapyard, this is where the fun would happen, the Helicopter would get hit by the Gas Cannister, and end up crashing back into the Village Hall

But that would kill Debbie which is impossible.

I wonfer how heavilly Debbie will be involved, as she is pregnant, obviously she cant be put in any danger, I guess they could use a body double.

90$ of the stunts, are meant to have been performed by the actors

None of the actors would be put in any danger. Pregnant or not. Stunt doubles will be used (95% of the time) if anything is even remotely dangerous

I appreciate the hard work time and effort put into making ED but that has nothing to do with my points about soap actors. Charlotte Bellamy is one of the better soap actors in this country but if she's anywhere near as great as you think she is why has she not been headhunted by major producers offering her great roles and shedloads of cash??? The answer is because in the big wide world of acting she is nothing special.
There is just a world of difference between looking good when you're in a show with atrocious actors like the ones who play Val, Ruby, Priya, Victoria, Rachel and genuine world class actors who have the top producers chasing after them.

Maybe she's happy with a regular job that works for her with her family commitments.

There is more to life than work - everyone reaches a point where they have to balance their career aspirations with life aspirations/demands.

I like my job, 10 years ago I'd have been applying regularly for promotion/a new job - however elderly family illness and issues have meant that I have commitments which mean that I'm happy where I am and not currently seeking promotion or a different job because my current job gives me flexible working which is currently essential for what's going on in my family life.

It doesn't mean I'm crap at my job, or that I couldn't do a better/higher level job.

You've no idea what other work she's been offered or turned down for what reasons.

The answer is for a whole spectrum reasons that doesn't even involve Charlotte Bellamy's acting. These big producers probably aren't even looking at soaps to find talent because they hold similar opinions to yourself. Either that or they may think that hiring a soap actor could somehow diminish their production, again because the producers may hold similar views are yourself.

The fact is that there are countless of soap actors who have gone on to act in supposedly 'bigger and better' things. Downton Abbey is riddled with former soap stars and Game of Thrones has an alarming amount of ex-Hollyoaks cast members. Sarah Lancashire is brilliant in Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley but she was brilliant for the many years that she was in Coronation Street as well. She isn't somehow made fantastic simply because she's stepped away from soap; she always WAS brilliant.

Doesn't add up at all. If you're in demand you'd end up working for far far morre money for far far less hours. You pick and choose when and where you work and with. I refuse to accept anyone would take the relatively low paid soap work for very long boring hours doing the same old job year after year, especially on the ED set which can get very cold and miserable during the winter.

Some people like routine and money isn't everything.

Imo Joanne Froggatt is even better than Sarah Lancashire. They left a soap and got great roles so it proves there is no predudice against soap actors if they are good enough. They are terrific actresses but ED just does not have any at their level.
The DS fans keep saying the likes of Emma Atkins and Nicola Wheeler are so great. They both left ED and got nowhere so returned to ED. Nicola didn't get a single acting role.
Up against better actors at auditions they were simply not the best for the roles. That's just the way the cruel hard world of acting works.

Charlotte Bellamy has been absolutely incredible these last few months. She's pulled off some captivating scenes, it's really made me sit up and notice the character of Laurel. And she's now one of my favourites.

I can fully understand the likes of Lesley Dunlop and the older ED actors being happy with their lot and happy to stay for as long as they're wanted. Though I think Charlie Hardwick is a dreadful panto, ham actress, I really admire her for quitting to try other things at her stage of life. Nicola Wheeler has said she'll stay for as long as she'd wanted and I can fully understand her reasons. Jeff and Emma will probably want to stay as well and I don't blame them either. But it really is time for the likes if Kelvin Fletcher, Charley Webb, the guy who plays Ross, to move on and see if they can make ity away from soaps. Others like the rocking horse that plays Kirin should just thank their lucky stars they are in a job.

Charley Webb said in an interview today that she loves the security of regular work that ED gives her. I imagine that is especially important as she is raising her children. The main thing is that she hasn't let that bring complacency into her performances and still delivers fantastic performances in every storyline she is involved in.
