It is a school thing.
I have never heard an adult say that.
According to someone on twitter, her mother died in 2012. But Ash said she died last year. Quite a sensitive subject to get in to i suppose.

Exactly.
It was completely unnecessary & I have said repeatedly, an odd thing for an adult to say.
When people feel the need to say that, it kinda convices me they are lying. So many of my mates do this and it annoys me

According to this article her mum passed away 3 years ago. She definitely said it was last year in the diary room and it was still raw for her.
