During commentary, it was also mentioned that there'll be commentary of the opening match of the new season of the Welsh Premier League (of which they had their season launch outside the Senedd today) between Rhyl and Bangor City, with Mark and Owain Tudur Jones.

Whether it'll be a regular thing remains to be seen, as the Pro12 gets underway at the start of September, and in reality, that's more popular (plus only the 'Welsh' side of BBC Wales (ie Radio Cymru & S4C) take the WPL seriously).

A special mention should to be given to the Hartlepool PA system, as both Mark and Andy would both comment that the loudness in the audio would mean that there would be little or no point commentating whenever he talks as it would 'silence out' their voices

Ian Cleverly thanks for letting me know it was Jonathan Ford who spoke during the break in transmission
Although I forgot to check the freeview details
When I started recording the radio bristol mid week match,it started with Richard Hoskin
live from Luton Town and no host.maybe JR is on "stand by" in the studio
Surprised it took a little time to get BBC Zummerzet to "flick the switch"
Be interesting if Radio Bristol decide on no host for Bristol City's game againsdt Leeds
Which is being beamed back to Elland road.
I can't get the BBC Wiltshire mid week details for a little while as I have had my BBC Wiltshire aerial removed

Friday 21st August - talkSPORT

Matt Holland presenting Kick Off: The Player's Lounge alongside Michael Gray

Championship
Birmingham City v Derby County - Tom Ross!!!

Cricket: Fifth Ashes Test Match
England v Australia - Jon Norman

Big news this - a talkSPORT debut for BRMB/Free Radio 80s legend Tom Ross. It's the first time he's worked for a broadcaster other than the now-Orion Media owned stations in ages, I think since the 1990s when I believe he did a few cameos on Sky Sports in their early days when they were using local commercial radio commentators on their highlights shows. Earlier Tom was presenting The Friday Football Phone-In on Free Radio 80s from St Andrew's, although interestingly he never explicitly mentioned it, probably as FR80s was going off-air at 7pm and it would have sounded weird for him to be at the game but not covering it live for them. It was pretty clear he was there though, as you could hear the tannoy. Matt Murray mentioned how he was sitting in Tom's usual chair in the studio.

I always felt there would be a day when Tom would turn up on talkSPORT - he's well liked by a number of members of their sports coverage team, notably Ian Danter who he gave a first break too, and quite clearly is a listener to the station. Indeed now that Dants is based in the south, perhaps Tom might be a logical fit to report for them on Sunday and midweek games taking place in Birmingham on a semi-regular basis?

Over the past seven days talkSPORT have called upon a number of recent local radio correspondents including Tom's former Goalzone colleague Olly Wilson, ex-BBC Radio Leeds presenter Derm Tanner and voices familiar to BBC Radio Sheffield listeners in Paul Walker and Nick Walsh; I think it may have been Walsh's debut on the station last Saturday although I'm not sure - he's definitely done some national work for IRN but I'm not sure if he turned up on talkSPORT last term. But for me hearing Tom on talkSPORT is a really big deal, he's been so ingrained in the West Midlands football scene with him celebrating his 35th year with what's now Free Radio this season. Great to hear him broadcasting nationally and hopefully this will be the first of many occasions we hear him on talkSPORT.

I'm sure talkSPORT will carry reports on France v England and maybe Italy v Scotland in the rugby union later on. Switching codes, one I missed from last night:

Rugby League: Super League
Warrington Wolves v Wigan Warriors (Friday) - Graham Courtney

By my reckoning, today's game at Elland Road will be the first league game Jim Proudfoot has covered for talkSPORT on a Saturday afternoon since his days doing opt-out commentaries on 1089am in London and the South-East 11 years ago. Nigel Adderley will be on commentary duty with Stan Collymore for West Bromwich Albion v Chelsea tomorrow.
