Other posters have made very valid points but you've ignored those.

Think it's time to stop feeding the troll guys.

What a shame.

Have a valid point to make. Argue it out. Dare to stick to your guns and reuse to agree with the apologists for the station concerned...and get labelled a troll.

That's the point, you haven't argued it out, you've ignored the string of posts making points and you've just jumped on one you didn't agree with

To be fair Mall, you have put forward your thesis others including myself have dissected it piece by piece.

It is clear you are not going to address points made by previous members, instead your missives are nothing short of denial.

yes. its interesting that after Mall's origenal argument was taken apart, he moves the goalposts (no pun intended) and tries to construct a new (and equally deluded) argument. which sport I wonder didn't get covered on Saturday because a couple of local stations had the absolute nurve to cover their local team... wait, surely that game in the under 9's junior league should have had commentary? shame on you BBC!

Mark Saggers presented Kick Off: Monday Night Feist Night alongside Stan Collymore

Championship
Brighton & Hove Albion v Leeds United - Elliot Cook

I read in another thread that Radio City provided commentary on Sunday's Capital One Cup Final between Liverpool and Manchester City. Given that they dropped commentary rights to Everton and Liverpool at the start of the season, while retaining their midweek sports discussion programmes, I was interested to read that they have seemingly picked up a one-off commentary rights deal to cover one of their clubs in a major final. Does anyone know who their coverage team was?

How come WM isn't splitting frequencies on DAB for the Villa match?

Would've thought the potential for a mass walkout at 74 mins by Villa fans might have got more than updates only?

BBC WM are only allowed to provide commentary on a limited number of Aston Villa home games.

Typically these commentaries will be derby games at Villa Park and also standalone home Villa matches, where if they weren't able to do commentary they'd be forced to do an updates show. The home Villa games they don't commentate on tend to be played on busy Saturdays or on nights like tonight when West Brom are also in action.

I feel it's slightly more disappointing that WM haven't decided to do a DAB opt-out commentary on Walsall v Scunthorpe United given the League One promotion battle. That said, there may be limits on the number of Walsall home games they can do commentary on and West Brom are the one club in the region whose fanbase is generally spread across both the Birmingham and Wolverhampton DAB MUX areas.

Pat Murphy believes more and more in his own ego every week.

Describing defending as shocking for a goal as usual this evening... going on and on about 74th minute walkout of Villa fans and then at the end of the game; "now just 10 minutes after the final whistle, Villa Park is earily empty apart from the Everton fans".

That is pretty much how every premier league ground is 10 minutes after the final whistle...

He has his agenda and is determined to fit the narrative of the match around that agenda.

Yes. It's amazing how quickly grounds empty when the crowd arrives ofer a considerably longer period of time. Even if you listen to football on the radio on a Saturday afternoon. Often by 5 pm the ground is silent.

I absolutely agree with you, whenever I have the misfortune of hearing Pat Murphy (generally in other people's cars, I don't seek out 5 Live Sport when there are multiple matches taking place) I find him to have become increasingly pompous and self-important.

For me he's the most irritating broadcaster on sports radio right now (despite strong competition elsewhere!). He seems desperate to crowbar his views into his reports and interviews. That sorry episode with the then-Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson last season (where he generated some publicity for attempting to piggyback of NP's "ostrich" comments to print journalist Ian Baker) seems to have inflated his ego to a whole new level. Reportedly he's not the most popular journalist in the West Midlands and I can see why.

I'm listening to BBC WM's West Midlands Football Phone-In right now, where presenter Paul Franks has announced that the show will be extended by half an hour for the rest of the season. From Monday, the programme will be broadcast between 5.30-7pm.

I'd noticed it prior to that Pearson episode, but yes, that seemed to ratchet (sp) up his ego even more, and the presenters seem to feed it as well. Damn annoying as he used to be a good reporter!
