Sam Matterface has just mentioned that talkSPORT will be doing commentary on the FA Cup Fifth Round Replay between Hull City and Arsenal on Tuesday. Sam and Michael Gray will commentate from the KC Stadium with Kick Off beginning at 6.30pm for the 7pm kick-off.

Previously talkSPORT had been scheduled to provide commentary on Real Madrid v AS Roma, but obviously things have changed since the scheduling of the replay in an unexpected timeslot given UEFA's guidelines on televising domestic games against Champions League fixtures. They will still be doing updates on the game in Madrid and I feel talkSPORT have made a good call in prioritising the FA Cup and UK-based teams. Of course, were talkSPORT 2 to be launching a week earlier they could have put commentary on one of these games on that station!

Sam also mentioned that talkSPORT will be providing commentary on Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham Hotspur next Thursday. Commentary on Barcelona v Arsenal is also listed on talkSPORT.com for the following Tuesday.

That is pretty much how every premier league ground is 10 minutes after the final whistle...

I'm not his biggest fan but he does have a good Midlands football knowledge. I'm not sure what is wrong with calling defending 'shocking' as it was!

He was also asked about the walkout so had to respond.

Agree about his Midlands football knowledge.

He was talking about the 74th minute walkout from the beginning of the match, well before he was asked about it and then every time they went to him for a score update, he mentioned it's imminence!

As for shocking, he uses it every week to describe an incident in a game. Almost Alan greenesque!

It was the same with the 77th minute at Anfield too. It highlights the cause/plight of the club & fans.

I do agree he can go too far at times but I'd prefer that than blandness which many reporters tend to offer

Many sound the same as each other and offer no insight

Last night's 5 Live line up was ruddy awful, Claridge is a terrible pundit, Paul Ince is just unlikeable & Danny Mills is passable but only just

Mark Schwarzer was at WHU/Spurs and was decent

I don't mind Claridge, but the 'insight' that some of these ex players offer is so limited. The presenter asks them a question, say about team spirit or the benefit of having experienced a situation beforehand and I actually think that the players have never considered it or thought about it until they are asked, so they just say the same cliched blandness as I could say with no experience as a professional sportsman.

I'm amazed that the presenters don't get frustrated. mills with his constant sort of intake of breath before he responds to a question is damn annoying!

I have a big issue with Paul Ince being on any station given he attacked a referee, his dodgy representation of his son & he isn't exactly a good manager.

5Live should try and use the better MOTD pundits if they can and the likes of Waddle but it can't be easy trying to find decent guests around Manchester all the tinme

I think 5live need to promote Lawro to main pundit again, he offered great insight and was truly at the top of his game, covering the big games for 5live, now we only get him in small doses, which is not good enough imo, he is alot better than the likes of Savage, Jenas et al.

The team of Mike Ingham, Alan Green and Mark Lawrenson, when they covered matches together was in my opinion the greatest commentary team the BBC has ever produced.

Legandry.

Given the one-sided nature of the Liverpool v Manchester City game, with 17 minutes remaining at Anfield talkSPORT crossed to Upton Park for Ian Abrahams to provide uninterrupted commentary on the final three minutes of normal time and the four minutes of stoppage time.

Such was the situation at Anfield, once he'd finished summing things up at the end of the game Ian threw over to Mark Saggers, who linked into the full-time updates from the other two 7.45pm kick-offs and to goal news at Old Trafford before handing back to Sam Matterface and Michael Gray who resumed their commentary from Anfield.

Going back to Monday (29th February), the FA Trophy Semi-Final Draw was conducted live on talkSPORT's mid-morning show Colin Murray & Friends. Colin presented, with his co-hosts Des Kelly drawing the home teams and Michael Gray drawing the away teams.

afraid I agree with the other poster-- though I'm biased again 3 man commentary teams anyway as they offer nothing extra. Re Lawro, there is a reason why he's dropped down the BBC pecking order and, although the BBC don't always get these things right, I think they are using him just about perfectly at the moment. I'm not really a hater-- I always look at his predictions on the website and don't mind him in small doses and he's certainly on a different level to Savage but IMO 5Live do have better pundits. the constant wise cracks are pretty anoying-- he's a classic example of the bloke down the pub who thinks he's very funny but is actually a bit of an old bore. when he stops playing the fool, his punditry isn't half bad though which is why I don't mind him to much. he certainly doesn't make me want to smash up my radio like alan green and robbie savage do... Mike Ingham was one of the finest sport broadcasters I've ever had the pleasure of listening too and I miss his commentaries.

03-03-2016
An advantage for 5Live that the 2nd leg of Utd/Liv is at 8:05 allowing 5Live to do full commentary without having to interrupt any other shows

There's no sign of the first leg yet but these deals can be done late or maybe they've decided to leave it, I might send a Tweet to Phil Wye as he normally replues.

EDIT: I don't mind Lawro on radio now and again but wouldn't want him regularly on, I think 5Live rotating pundits works, I miss Mike Ingham too but I like Green & Murray. When Alan retires, there'll be a big gap left IMO.
swansea steve
03-03-2016
Yes, Murray is a worthy successer to Ingham. Not sure how big the gap will be, Murray will commentate on the big matches by himself instead of doing them double handed with Green and the 2 man team will probably be phased out. I guess Dennis may do more commentaries? they may need to bring in 1 new commentator but 5Live do have a pretty large group of people to call on.
swansea steve
03-03-2016
I meant to add that it wouldn't surprise me if 5Live don't do commentary of the first leg of the Europa League match-- their deal with United is how they can cover the second leg I think. the one thing to keep in mind is that I think I read that Liverpool are trying to get the kick-off time for the first leg changed? if 5Live are going to cover it, they may be waiting for confirmed kick-off time before announcing it?

Phil Wye confirmed game is on next Thursday, great service!

5Live have Hull/Arsenal on Tuesday, they lose a while 5 minutes of Drive!
swansea steve
04-03-2016
that'll get them steaming over on the 5Live thread! that means drive will finish early 3 nights in a row next week if the 6 PM KO for Thursday isn't changed. Its an outrage, what do I pay my licence fee for.. bla bla bla.
The great thing about this is that with TS covering the (only in my view the more interesting tie) involving Spurs, both games get national radio coverage.

Next Thursday was always at 8:05. It's the second leg that has been changed

Ingram was superb. A brilliant commentator and correspondent. The other two ruin the enjoyment of listening to a live game imho. It's not being a hater to disagree with you.
Ian Dennis is very good and I was surprised that he wasn't made chief football correspondant.
Murray is a good commentator, but I don't think a particularly good correspondent. He does t answer the questions put to him by the presenters necessarily.
