What an excellent programme that was. Tom Ross is one of the best in terms of commitment and passion. That experience at Bristol City must have been difficult. I'm surprised they didn't try to have the fan removed. Sometimes a ffan says something into the mic but it's a single incident that is over in seconds. That happened at the end of a Huddersfield Town away match against Hartlepol United. A few Darlington fans stopped swearing after being asked to stop by Barry Parker during a York City match. It sounds like that fan wouldn't stop. Apparently Radio Sheffield had similar problems at that ground last season. Was the mentioned commercial break during the match or at half-time?

As mentioned by IanFergus upthread, it was Nigel Adderley and Paul Mortimer commentating on Barcelona v Real Madrid for talkSPORT 2. Given that Mortimer was co-commentating on Aston Villa v Chelsea for talkSPORT Live earlier in the day and wasn't trailed as being involved in their coverage beforehand, I'm wondering if he was a late appointment and they had planned to get someone in with more obvious connections to Spanish football.

Presenters-wise, Ian Danter anchored their lengthy build-up right the way through until the handover to the commentators ahead of kick-off. Will Gavin then took over at half-time in El Clasico and continued to host La Liga Live until its conclusion. Andy Brassell was not only heard in the build-up, but at half-time and full-time in El Clasico as well, although didn't stick around for Celta Vigo v Deportivo La Coruna.

Coverage of Celta v Deportivo was joined in-progress during the first half - I don't have a precise time (I'd be interested if anyone knows the exact time they joined it), but it wouldn't have been much before the 30 minute mark as they did have some post-match reaction to El Clasico from Andy before they headed to the 9.05pm kick-off.

Today FM did have a reporter, Ian Beach, at Stoke City v Swansea City after all. They weren't able to cross to Ian for team news during their build-up hour from what I heard. And it was indeed Phil Kinsella who reported on Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur for them.

It was meant to be a commentary at the rugby, but with 20 or so minutes to go until kick of the ISDN kit went. With no back up, his next update about team news had to be 'via phone', so it was decided not to carry on. *I think* Neil Maggs was meant to be a co-commentator with him before all this occurred.

Oh, and there was no mention of where 1566MW fitted in with all the commentary options they say to listen to when they split the frequencies at just before 3pm, so I've 'shoved it' there.

BFBS Radio (Saturday)

Arsenal v Watford - Andrew Cheal (predicted 2-0)
SPFL preview - Stewart Weir

Swansea Sound (Saturday)

Stoke City v Swansea City - Dan Ayres (commentary)

Dan mentioned that Adam Fiedler was sat in the pressbox nearby, and told listeners that it would be better for him (Dan) to commentate on this rather than Adam, as he has yet to see a Swansea City away win for over a year and two months

Tom Ross and Tommy Mooney were commentating on a Birmingham City game at Ashton Gate a few seasons back (not that long ago, probably three or four years back). Birmingham were winning and an irate Bristol City supporter sat in front of them got up, turned towards their microphones and started accusing Blues of cheating, using (mild) swearing - nothing too strong that it meant they couldn't include these clips in Tom's documentary though.

This fan started ranting at them at half-time, and continued to audibly gob off in the second half. Tom was apologising to his listeners and was telling this guy off during the match as he carried on. By the end, the guy was so irate that he starts jabbing his fingers at Tom and Tommy, leading the latter to bite back. But Tom remained a bit cooler, wishing the guy a safe journey home before adding "thanks for the three points."

It's worth listening to the documentary to hear Tom do the story more justice than I have here (it's towards the end of the programme). The perils of live broadcasting, although with apologies to any City fans reading this, that particular supporter had Tom's put down coming!

On a related point, I'm currently reading Roger Mosey's book Getting Out Alive about his BBC career, where he talks about how he first met John Inverdale, when Mosey was reporting for the newly launched Radio Lincolnshire and Inverdale was reporting from the Lincolnshire Echo at the same council meeting. Mosey realised Inverdale was far more interested in radio and sport than he was papers and council meetings so invited him in to have a look round, and the rest is history.

There's also much in the book about him being Controller of 5 Live in the late nineties, including firing Danny Baker and hiring Richard Littlejohn, plus the news that before one Premier League rights renewal he made a point of visiting the Chairmen of every single Premier League club to tell them how committed they were to football. I haven't got as far as his reign as Head of BBC Sport yet.

They have the EL QF involving Liverpool on Thursday so duties for the next 2 weeks to be shared around Green, Dennis, McManara & Ian Brown.

Also explains why John Murray has a weekend off as he's pretty much constantly busy. It also seems he's taken over Alan Green as rowing commentator at the Olympics so a busy year for him

Mark Chapman is also off to The Masters

Tomorrow night they're doing something around the Championship games, no commentary game confirmed

Next Weds is the FA Cup replay so they'll cover that so no non UK CL ties this round

I vaguely remember listening to the game at the time and I'm fairly sure it took place on a Sunday, so I'd guess it must have been the one you list that was played in 2011. Tommy Mooney was playing in Marbella in 2008/09, so it definitely won't have been that game from September 2008.
