freezing alcohol

Hey,

So I'm having a garden party in a few weeks time, and was wondering if this is a possible idea.

If I get some wine and some cider, and freeze them into ice lolly moulds, will this work? Or will they not freeze solid, and just leave me with slush?

I think a domestic freezer will only make slushies. Even if you could get it to freeze they would melt long before they get to a reasonable temperature to eat.
Stick to vodka and gin jellies!

A granita would probably be easier to make.

I used to love cider lollies as a kid though. A cider lolly with two scoops of icecream on. I can't remember what it was called though. It had a certain name to order it.

I thought the same thing and made the lollies a few weeks back.
I made Mojito (which didnt freeze the best), cider, vodka and diet coke and pimms. As long as the booze isnt too strong it should freeze.
Poundworld are selling the lolly makers. Pound for six

Wine and cider should certainly freeze.

Anything around 15-20% ABV+ wont freeze solid, but anything less and it should be absolutely fine

If your gin or vodka freezes it's fake.

That still doesn't invalidate my answer.

Rules changed a while back to allow home distillation for personal use. I was never entirely sure whether making applejack would invoke the wrath of HMRC, but it's something we used to do as students. Much of the flavor seemed to end up in the centre with the alcohol though, which stays unfrozen usually with domestic freezers.

Other options are finding someone with access to -70C lab freezers (always fun) or..

http://www.chillistick.com/all-produ...ack-sizes.html

which gets down to -80C and that site sells food-grade dry ice. And..

Only allow responsible sober adults to handle dry ice who have read the safety guidelines.
