Is your pet coping with the heat?

My little cat has been crashed out all day, not eating or drinking. Too hot to catch a fly or attack my feet. She finally got up at about 6.30 but it was still very hot. It's only in the last hour or so when the temp dropped to 24c that she's been active. I normally force her out during the day so she sleeps at night but today I relented and let her rest. In fact, I had a little sleep myself after lunch.😸

How has your pet been?

Our two 11 year old cat's aren't particularly active, eating and drinking like normal and just lazing around. Around 27°C today, we've had dark clouds with a little thunder and lightning since 3.30pm which has reduced the temperature a fair bit.

Our one year old Labrador hasn't been quite as active today, we had a loud clap of thunder which he didn't like at all.

The dog and one of the cat's stay downstairs at night where it's much cooler, the other cat will be stretched out on the bed or last night he must've felt the heat as he lay down on the floor next to the bed.

I'm relieved I don't live in the south.

A little cooler and more comfortable tomorrow.

One of my dogs threw up yesterday because of it but he was fine today. Having to give him shorter plays outside though because we don't want him to get too warm again.

My dog has been off his food and sleeping a lot during the day, seems better tonight now it's cooled down a bit though.

We had to hose the boy down at lunchtime today (a golden retriever with a big fur coat). He was a bit sick this morning but drenching him with cold water did the trick and kept him quite cool this afternoon, hardly any panting at all. He still managed to hoover up both meals so he must be OK.

My dog is quite old now. 13 (and whatever that is in dog years) and doesn't seem to be handling it well at all. So bad to the point i got a little bit worried. Can it be a health risk for older dogs?

Our dogs are more or less as normal but there is a paddling pool for them, if they get too hot chasing each other around they have a roll in it, eating as normal too, I, on the other hand am f**ked

My 13 year old Siamese isn't happy - flopping around the place and hardly eating. She's even taken to lying in front of the fan and she usually hates it.

And apparently it's all my fault - every time she has to get up she stares at me and shouts very rude things.

I think mine was just confused but she too sat in front of the hated fan and watched a bit of tennis when she was eventually got up. When it cooled down she was soon back to normal and stayed out till 1 o'clock. It's going to be warm again today but not as bad as yesterday so hopefully she will cope a bit better.

Few years ago we bought a mobile air conditioner for one of our late oldies, our two young ladies loved it, nice and cool in the living room for them.

my cat is surprisingly ok!

she is a tad aggitated and gives me the odd evil eye as if the heat is my fault but overall she is coping fine

she is eating and drinking and snoozing but no more than usual

she isnt a very active cat to be honest, she is 14 years old she usually spends most of her life either asleep or eating

last night she went out on the patio and just lay down (normally she would be asleep on my lap) but she didnt stay out for long, she then climbed up on the sofa next to me and went to sleep

The Beast is eating a lot less, but over the years I have sussed that is his normal way when the weather (and him) get hot.

He also doesn't come onto the bed at night, but lies under my van, where it is cooler.

We leave a fresh bowl of water out for him in the mornings when we go to work, it has cat hairs in it when we come home, so he has been faffing about with it, whether drinking, playing, or washing himself.

Ironically, he is a bit less happy with the world when its hot, as opposed to when it's not so hot and he will hunt out the best sunny spot to bask in the sunshine

Our husky just lies in the paddling pool, very happy day or night. But i must say this husky has the right idea. https://youtu.be/8juwG3lBrfA

Try putting ice cubes into his water bowl and a cold damp towel for him to lie on could help too.

My cat is fine in this weather. He has his favorite outdoor spot which is pretty cool. It's a shady spot on top of metal shed under a tree. I make sure he has constant water to and my fan is on all day if he needs to come in and cool down.

my two old bitches, hate getting wet, and hate the heat.. when it is time for walkies, in rain they try to pull back and go home.. in the heat they pant and want to lie down and sleep... normal days they are ok..
