I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, and as far as I've been able to check back it hasn't, but anyone experiencing slow Feel at Home on iPhone should switch off 'Enable 4G' under Mobile Data.

This didn't used to be a problem until an update earlier this year. But it has made a significant difference when I've tried using Feel at Home in France and Switzerland.

I am not sure why that would matter? Besides the phone unnecessarily looking for 4G abroad, when there's no roaming agreement.

At some point Three (and O2) must be looking to offer 4G roaming too, surely? Feel at Home is great for a lot of people (I feel I have to say that to avoid being shot down) but it is now looking less appealing given;

a) 3G only with throttling/blocking of services.
b) Vodafone offering up to 4GB a month in all of Europe, not just selected countries - and Three not having added any new destinations for ages.
c) EE about to do the same with up to 40GB a month (in reality, I suspect most subscribers won't be taking this particular plan, but it's there).
d) Ordinary roaming charges if you don't have any bundles at all aren't that bad. For some relatively low users, or very occasional users, it might be fine.
e) With EE and Vodafone, you can tether the data - so the tablet you also brought, or the Kindle, or the laptop can be taken online.

I wish EE would change their data add ons for outside of europe. £40 for 750mb in America is atrocious.

Yes, non European roaming is a different story.

how likely do you think it is for EE to release those new plans this month?
I really need to choose by Aug 18th whether to cancel my new vodafone contract! I love roaming data and Vodafone's data network in europe is great. However in the UK it is not that great compared to other networks..

EE changes the plans mid August. I suspect that it might be the 16th or 17th, given that's when the current promotions end.

Interesting! Which protocol are you using?

I have no idea. I am just using the app on my iPhone & MacBook Pro.

I should qualify my answer by stating that it worked great the last time I was in France a few months ago. I'll be visiting again in a couple of weeks so will find out if it is still working well.

Roaming in the US last week with Three.

- Fairly slow (say 3.5 down, 0.5 up) most of the visit
- web browsing always seemed "slow" , often pages wouldn't load. 500-600ms latency doesn't help
- at some times (back in airport on way home) I got higher speeds
- fortunately was in hotel/office and had ok wifi
- Not a lot of difference between T Mobile & AT&T
- this was in Atlanta (airport & Marietta mostly)
- no real difference using a VPN (openvpn back to a raspberrypi at home, then a 35/7 Mbps connection -- so basically max 7 Mbps, didn't really get that anyway)

When using the AT&T network in NJ/NY area - I got the impression that it was overloaded.
When the phone switched to T-Mobile EDGE (2G) everything loaded faster.

Tunnelbear worked fine for me when in France a couple of weeks ago so I was able to watch BBC One Live on iPlayer on the beach at Le Touquet.

I did have an initial problem with roaming in that calls & texts worked OK but no 3G data app worked at all. I had a support Chat with Three who were very helpful. A reboot of the iPhone 6s Plus fixed the problem. Three's roaming partners are Orange, Free & Bouygues Telecom. As I know from personal experience when I lived in France the Orange network is biggest & best so generally preferable to connect to.

As it happens there's a couple of the newly added countries I'm visiting at the end of this month, so that's handy.

It's free, get over it. 1.5Mb/s is hardly slow and things are going to be slower if the Internet traffic is routed back through the UK, if you read the T&C's they do state this.

I'll be VERY happy to use free data already included in my plan in Spain in 2 weeks, even if it is a bit slow it beats paying expensive roaming rates.

It was a great offer when it launched, but now that Vodafone and EE give you inclusive 4G roaming, Three needs to step up it's game a bit.

No they don't! They aren't comparible and I'm an EE customer. You're taking about EU roaming.

I haven't been on holiday in Europe for years but have used Feel At Home in Asia and the US and it was incredibly useful to have.

EE isn't much good, but Vodafone will let you use up to 20GB for £5 a day.

It's full 4G data too, with no throttling. However, the EU appears to be about to force the likes of Three to not do anything to slow or restrict data. I wonder if it will appeal?

Its a fine line to walk though - you don't have to be actively throttling to achieve what Three are doing, you could just massively under-provision the transit/run the pipes extremely hot and let the 'problem' solve itself naturally.

Three has admitted it blocks services to the trade. It still uses social media to blame local conditions, but we know it's a lie.

If they carried on pretending and hadn't said at a roundtable meeting that they do it, and that they might consider offering full access for a price, maybe they'd get away with it.

Still, when they send texts saying how much a user has saved and encourage users to share on social media (which they do) it means most people think it's fantastic.

Regardless of whether most people will be fine, honesty and transparency should never be set aside.

Alternative (additional cost) options for those of us that require full performance would be a relatively simple way to provide a fair service.

If you have been lied to and are unable to do what you reasonably expected, that is not a fair way to do business.

Lying and misleading are not attributes any company should have. I hope that they are held to account and penalised.
