I have also used Free Mobile in France, in Lille the 4G speeds were brilliant! What kind of 4G speeds you getting in Paris I wonder?
Got 68Mbps on 2600MHz, which is brilliant. Around 15Mbps on 1800MHz and didn't get to test 700MHz.

On 3G I've gotten usually around 0.01 Mbps...

Awesome! You can also search for French Antennas here: https://www.antennesmobiles.fr/ regularly updated.

Remember that threes traffic management means that whilst a speedtest may be ultraquick, the actual throughput in many apps is restricted. in particular non-facebook video.

Just got back from Benidorm Spain never saw any 4G data and it was painfully slow with Tunein buffering like crazy and even Android play store updates and loading Facebook pictures taking ages to load

Hi Jon, thanks for the update. What roaming networks are you able to use in Germany please?

Thanks
I'm maybe a bit late, but I can answer that. Three defaults to Telekom.de there, and you can use o2, but not E-plus. Which is unfortunate, considering that's what there using after the merger they have going on. So in some parts you are already limited to Telekom (aka T-Mobile) only as Vodafone is blocked as well.

Just come back from Gran Canaria and there was some serious throttling of data going on.

Facebook was pretty good to be honest, but images contained within email and a fair few apps outside of Facebook were dog slow, but did work eventually.

Interestingly when I was in Miami earlier this year the iPhone mapping app was so slow as to be unusable. However by opening the uber app the maps downloaded, and panned/zoomed in a flash.

Have used it in the States quite a few times now. Will be doing again soon.
Never had a problem streaming etc. Spain was never too bad either, but I haven't been there for a few years though.

So is there still no way around the throttling then? I'm off to Tenerife on the 30th. Would I even be able to video call my daughter over Facebook or Hangouts?

Surprisingly I managed to FaceTime back home on the one occasion I tried.

They are still allowed to put a total cap on though, they could just change it to 1GB of mobile data throughout the EU and then £15 per further GB.

Yeah FaceTime doesn't appear to be throttled.
