I agree with the bit in brackets, Renegade Master; but I like 'that big ginger lad', Craig. He is pleasant, and acts his role well. We are about to have two more characters coming in 'on a technicality', two pop singers. Do we no longer have drama schools to give us trained actors/actresses to entertain us?

I think she must read DS because her blinking used to be much much worse until it was discussed on here a while ago, just when I think she is going into blinking mode, she manages to control it!

Les Dennis is crap too, and Sean's performance in the bus crash episode must be one of the worst ever on Corrie.

I find Craig a bit unconvincing too, though I like the character very much.

Sorry - that's more than one of each.”

Sarah Platt is just wallpaper now, hardly says anything, and when she does it is pretty meaningless. Mind you, I thought she was pretty useless before, every line delivered was in a shouty voice.
My respect for Eileen increased tenfold whilst watching her reaction to the bus crash - understated but so real, IMO

Agree - he is the foil to all the over/under acting from various other Corrie characters.
I used to loathe the Tracey character, but realise that as far as acting goes - Kate Ford is very good as she is so convincing.
Same with Ellie Loach, she is playing a bratty type very well.
My poor acting awards go to Sarah Platt ( who has replaced Maria as most bland character) & Kirk.

Julie & Dev. and special mention to Anthony Cotton (who gets paid to play himself)

Although saying that Julie can deliver during scenes where a more serious tone is needed, its just the rest of the time, she is cringeworthy
Dev (Jimmi) is just terrible, makes anyone he's in a scene with look Oscar worthy.

I'm stunned no one has said the woman who plays Izzy. She's absolutely dreadful. And whoever told her she'd nailed a Salford accent must be a blind deaf mute.

Think I'd concur about Dev for the male candidate. Although if he was staying in it rather than seemingly moving to Outer Mongolia with t'baybeh I'd also nominate Faye's young beau Jackson. I've seen better child actors in a year one nativity.

Haven't watched CS since Summer 2011. I remember thinking then that Kate Ford was a rotten actress. It's really sad 4 years down the line that she still hasn't improved

They (the writers) haven't really bothered progressing the character since her return in 2010. Scheme, sneer, smirk, all forgotten rinse repeat. Maybe now and again pulling a sulky face when things don't go her way, but will then revert to acting like a bitch and then acting upset because she doesn't get respect.

You make a good point, is the actress limited by the bad writing for the character or is the writing limited because the character is played by a poor actress?!

Personally I find Kate Ford to have shown that she can (on occasion) actually be quite capable, and she's definitely improved over the last 12-18 months. Acting opposite Marc Baylis seemed to do wonders for both of them because I thought Marc was shocking when he first arrived, yet he left having improved 100% and had made the character actually quite likeable!

IMO Diedre's death could be a huge turning point for Tracy and if that stretches Kate Fords acting capability then I'm all for it.

Well apparently Deirdre's death is meant to be a turning point for her. It is rather a shame though that we had her nearly killing her daughter through carelessness and causing the fire, yet we haven't seen any remorse. Just last week they had to bring her back to stupid behaviour scheming against Brian Packham and humiliating him, just four-weeks since Amy nearly died and two people died from the fire.

The writers really need to sort themselves out. One minute Tracy was close to killing for a second time, but then is given some moronic plot playing a prank on someone.

Worst actor - by a country mile - is Anthony Cotton - why oh why do the producers insist on scripts which, despite the best efforts of the writers, clearly struggle to promote this 'over the top' character in anything other than an embarrassing light. Not their fault of course, Cotton would be difficult to accommodate in any role at all given his ego and limitations

Worst female actress - we have so many to choose from ... from 'I can only do sarcasm' Eileen, through 'pantomime dame' Liz, to 'I can only do sulking' Faye . However ahead of all of these and more ...is the excruciating Bethany - so many years older than her character, and failing miserably to convince us otherwise.

Having said that there are some good actors and actresses in the programme - ably led by 'Roy' and 'Carla'.

Her 'crying' scenes are quite something.

The writers, in my opinion, are to blame for most of the problems with Corrie these days. Even a good actor can only do so much with rotten dialogue and story lines.

I'm currently watching Corrie from 1992 (on YouTube) and Liz's character, for instance, is quite charming and funny with real depth. I realise characters age, but many of the long-running characters have been destroyed. The beauty of watching Corrie in the old days was that you could identify with the characters, everyone knew a Liz or even a Tracy and certainly a Percy, but now...

Exactly. The characters felt real, like you and me or like someone we know. There are hardly any we can say the same about today, everything about them is so exaggerated and OTT that it makes them caricatures their former selves!

I think about when I was growing up and the Websters, the Platts, the McDonalds and the Barlows came on TV and felt like real families suffering the same ups and downs as the rest of us (albeit heightened for dramatic effect....I realise that not many of us have suffered at the hands of a serial killer à la Richard Hillman) their characters were played out in a gritty and dramatic fashion and we rooted for them, laughed at them and felt for them. I honestly can't remember the last time I felt that passion for a Corrie character. It saddens me that the glory days are long gone and this is what we're left with.
