Galaxy Tab GT-P1010 BBC iPlayer?
unpave my path
03-07-2015
I am enquiring on behalf of my Mum who has a tab Model No. GT-P1010 Firmware 2.2.1 Build NO. FROYO.XXKB9

For the last couple of months, my Mum has been unable to access the BBC iPlayer app as it no longer supports this model. I thought that maybe she could watch programmes through the browser as the iPlayer website states the GT-P1000 can watch catch up tv but although the page loads, the actual video box does not. There is just a black empty box. Her internet connection is 38MB.

Should she be able to watch BBC iPlayer?

Any help would be much appreciated.

You need a new tablet really.

You could watch live tv using

http://www.tvcatchup.com/

- note : despite name, this is not a catchup service but a live tv service.

That tablet is old, but also the Android OS Froyo is pretty old now..
That tablet is upgradable to Gingerbread.
The minimun to run iPlayer now (latest version 4.8.1.175, requires Gingerbread 2.3 and up).

Sounds like you had an update to iPlayer or even the BBC media player apps recently or the bbc are now not supporting such an old OS.
You might find that reverting to an older version of BBC iPlayer, perhaps under setting uninstalling the updates to bbciplayer and bbc media player may help.
As for the web, you will need flash enabled within the browser for that to work.

Best bet is to buy a new tablet, the original 7 inch tesco hudl (£49) or the new 8.3inch hudl 2 (£99) are good buys and work well with iPlayer etc.
