Transferring music and video between PC and 2000T

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere in various bits and pieces, but could someone be kind enough to create a definite guide to transferring files backwards and forwards between a PC and the 2000T?

The annoying thing is that I managed to do it once before, but then deleted all my music files so that it would be easier for him to find a load of jazz recordings that I put on for him when I lent him the box.

No I have it back again, I can't find any way of repeating it. I can't see the 2000T folders in Windows Explorer, I can't connect to it using Filezilla and it can't find any servers when I try to connect from Storage Options in the Humax Menu (I made sure Windows Media Player was switched on and I am able to connect to the portal.

As I write, I've just wondered if I did it by plugging my portable hard drive into the USB slot, so I'll try that next. The thing is I could have sworn I did it by FTP before and I can't connect now, even though I've ensured that the IP address in Filezilla matches the one showing in the box. I do remember being able to sit at my PC, see the recordings in the box and play them on my PC. I don't think I was able to do it the other way round, but now my computer can't connect with the Humax hard drive at all.

Oh well, I'm doing it the tediously slow way of copying over via usb from my portable hard disk. I seem to remember it taking a fraction of the time via FTP, but what the hell.

I can't give you a definitive answer because I don't know your setup.
Here's what works for me. I have a network switch connecting two computers and a 2000T. All IP addresses are set manually (192.168.1.x).
On the Humax I've used the Menu to access System-Internet Setting-Configure LAN then set the Configure IP manual, IP Address as 192.168.1.10, Netmask as 255.255.0.0 and the other items as 0.0.0.0. Click on Apply. Back to previous menu and turn FTP Server ON.
With an ftp program such as Filezilla connect to the Humax (192.168.1.10 port 21 if you need it) username humaxftp password 0000 (unless you've changed the default pin).
Connects straight away, no problem.
For me, typing ftp://humaxftp@192.168.1.10/ into explorer or internet explorer also gives me access. Explorer is better as you should be able to upload/download files in an intuitive way. The "My Music" directory should be obvious when you log in.

I doubt that this will make any sense if you're using Wifi or a router.

Not really, as it gives a completely different IP address to the one you use. I'll play around with the other settings you used and see if it gets me anywhere.

Edit: Yeehaaa - got it.

19.168.1.4 humaxftp 0000 (no port required )

Thanks for that.

Perhaps I should have made it clearer that I was giving an example using the IP address I have chosen to use.

Sometimes the ftp server gives up. Now that you've got it working - should it fail again, try going into the Internet Settings menu and turn the ftp server OFF, then turn it on again. Usually clears problems for me. If you use the content server for streaming and that fails you might need to turn both the content server and ftp server off and then restart them both.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that if I have problems in future.
