The smell of oyster sauce

I made chicken in Oyster sauce (from a jar, brand is Ong's) and both my wife and I agreed the smell was disgusting. Admittedly she is 14 weeks pregnant but to me as well it smelt like a tramp's toe cheese. We've had it before and it was fine. It was in date. Waste of good chicken but hey ho.

It makes a great additive if you're making your own carp baits.

If it didn't smell/taste like the previous time you had it, it must've been off. Does happen - thats why you should check the seal on the bottle and give it a sniff before using.
Oyster sauce should have a rich, meaty smell - not sure if thats what a tramps toe cheese smells like as, to be honest, I've never got that intimate with a tramp...

Oyster sauce is a strange thing. I can't stand oysters (or any other shellfish) and the sauce in the jar is a bit pongy when you open it but something amazing happens when you add it to a stir fry.
