Something I'm failing to understand

I do not understand the moral high ground many forum members are taking over the want to win / want to save themselves / want to win the money. I just don't get it! It's a game show, why wouldn't you want to win? Why wouldn't you try to save yourself if you had the opportunity and to stop the money ticking down? If I had entered the BB house and lasted 2 months in there, of course I would want to win; of course I would not want to be up for eviction in the last week and of course I would be upset to see all that prize money disappearing. I don't understand why they are not supposed to care about such things and why they are judged harshly with comments like "Jack is so desperate to win", or "Chloe only cares about the money", or "Did you see their faces when the money was running down?" Totally natural reactions I would have thought. They're all supposed to be in it for the experience are they? Sorry I don't accept that and I don't think there's many people, forum members included, who would be like that if they were in there. I do not like Jack, but I do think his reactions in the diary room last night, when he was angry at being up for the last week, are very normal and honest and I respect him for that.

Agreed. It really makes me laugh when people who have entered a competition are slated for wanting to win it

I think it very much depends on whether or not the behaviour you're describing seems to be at odds with previously expressed attitudes.

Hypocrisy is something a viewer can take issue with legitimately I think.

Don't you think it would be natural in the beginning to claim you weren't interested in the money because you wouldn't want to come across as arrogant? Then you would have comments from forum members like "So and so is so cocky, he thinks he has this in the bag!" As time passes and you get nearer the end, it would be natural to start thinking about the possibility of winning.

Agreed, but there are still some in there portraying the attitude of not being interested in winning or the money in a blatant attempt to curry favour with the public, namely Chloe.

The fact that there is nothing wrong with wanting to win, in fact it's bizarre behaviour to claim you're not interested in winning, which makes it even worse that she's trying to manipulate public opinion by painting herself as whiter than white. Demonising Jack for openly admitting he would buy his way to the final. The suggestion being Jack is somehow morally wrong for wanting to win, and openly doing what he can to try and win.

It's the hypocrisy and dishonesty that really annoys me.

Then why have a go at Jack? I think Harry said something like, "winning with integrity is more important than money", to which Chloe responded "Well said Harry".

The DR chat and this exchange don't add up. I think she's blatantly trying to play the public by taking the 'moral' high ground when it comes to the prize money.

I'd have thought it was obvious why something like being desperate to win, or caring only about the money, would be criticised.

I don't mind if a HM cares about the money, or would like to win it, so long as it's not too important to them and doesn't have too great a role in shaping their behaviour. I think a HM should be in there primarily for the experience. and if they are instead in it primarily for the money, I reserve the right to think less of them for it.

If a HM is there primarily for the money, I think that shows both arrogance -- because they think they have a good enough chance of winning that it's worth spending months in the house trying to get the money -- and greed.

And although I would prefer for a HM to be honest with viewers about their aims and tactics, I would think less of a HM who was there primarily for the money even if they were completely honest about it.

I think £150,000 is far too high a prize and that no HM deserves that much money for winning BB. So in a way, I'm glad the prize has been reduced, and I hope (though I don't expect) that it will stay reduced.
