Twitter texts to 86444

I buy EE 6 GB SIM cards from Amazon which are data only. Since late last week I have been getting numerous Twitter texts to 86444, from people who I don't know. I changed over to a new SIM card, and therefore new number, and still got the texts. How do I stop them? I can't text STOP, because the SIMs are data only. And why am I getting them anyway? I have never registered to receive Twitter messages by text.

The phone number / IMSI might have been recycled.

Is it simply impossible to send a text with one of these SIMs?

P.S. The subject line is a bit confusing - it should really read "Twitter texts from 86444", should it not?

Sorry, yes, it should say *from*.

The SIMs concerned are from here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/6GB-Pay-Mobi.../dp/B00FSDAMT8

They come with no texts or calls, therefore you cannot text.

Surely it is unlikely that *both* phone numbers were both set to receive Twitter updates by text before being recycled?

You could still try sending a text to 86444. At least for contract customers on the big networks, it's free (though yes I know this isn't a contract).

I have tried! I get a text from "Network msg"

Just been to the EE shop and they claim they can't do anything, apart from offering me a £1 top up so I can text. I shouldn't have to pay given it isn't my fault.
