Russell Grant has posted on Twitter that he has been offered a contract by Strictly Come Dancing and says he is now looking at his schedule to see if he can do it... bit of a surprise! My gut feeling is that its probably a regular slot on It Takes Two or something, but who knows. Could he be hosting the next series? Or maybe he could be a judge!

If this is true, then for me, this programme is nearing its "sell by date."

That's the BBC all over, they can't leave things alone.

It used to be a "must watch programme." For the last few years I recorded it, mostly to skip through the old codger's involvement, but last year, I just watched the interesting bits, that's the dancing.

Yes this. Last series was the best flowing one with Tess keeping it ticking along and Claud/Zoe being their wacky best. I liked the judges last year. Only one piece of advice to Len and Bruno is that they do have 4 and 3 paddles that they could/should have used

Right he said later on Twitter he is doing Samba, Salsa and Cha Cha Cha and has told me that it is not an It takes Two segment

It'll be some It Takes Two/online thing. It won't be anything to do with the main show.

Considering people like Russell and Lisa weren't popular enough in the end to reach the final, I'm not sure where the BBC get the idea the public want to see them popping up on ITT etc. all the time. I'm curious to know where they do their audience research.

Then again, I suppose most of the people who did reach the finals now have better things to do career-wise than hang around the show all the time.

Do people's horrors of past contestants who weren't particularly popular presenting extend to Zoe Ball?

To be fair to Zoe she was already a well known presenter, so it made sense to give her some presenting role after she had experienced SCD as a contestant. Whereas Zoe is a pretty good presenter, Lisa Riley is.... an annoyance?

If they want an enthusiastic trier to do some slots on ITT then I don't mind it being Russell Grant. There are worse people, as we all know.

This is true, but there's a hell of a lot more that are better.
There's sufficient " camp content," in this programme, already.

Couldn't agree more. And why are they always pushing the comedians (or so-called comedians) in our faces, especially on ITT?

True SCD is meant to be light hearted entertainment, and enthusiasm and fun is one thing, but it's not a cheap silly comedy, as so many 'celebs' and ITT guests try to turn it into.

He has discounted it being an ITT segment.

Interesting.... something online seems more likely then, as if it was anything 'big' you would think he would have been told to keep quiet about it until the BBC made an announcement. I can't think what else it could be, unless they're secretly planning an All Star series .

Anything's possible, but he knows nothing about dancing so how could he realistically comment?

I like Russel Grant
I do feel somewhat sorry for him. If he had had the opportunity to do Strictly in the @80s, he could have lost weight, got fit and probably have done well. He has timing and a musical sense and an ability to perform.
As it is he obviously had some bad years before Strictly
He had a great relationship with Flavia and Joanne
I think he he truly loves and cares for the program. Yes he can come over as a bit needy but I respect why that can be
I see no reason why he could not become an asset, if managed correctly
He is friendly and supportive to others and a team player
