It is quite normal for these type of channels to launch with no public viewers as to illiminate any issues there may be before a full launch and full production starts.
Even on a public launch it may be hard to get the kit - and I suspect BT will want to do them first. |

I managed to get a Philips box before launch day - they then dried up for a while. When Sky launched 3D - everybody had access to the kit - but the services was not opened up to them until Sky were happy. There is still some doubt the currently 4K tvs are going to be able to perform to the required standard for satellite 4K transmissions. So it would be unwise to spend too much on this at the moment - whether the viewer or the broadcaster. Quote:

Things are now starting to happen. The UHD service will be launched on Friday this week. Meanwhile, the BT tariff guide was updated today and has some UHD information.
------------------------------------- Cost of BT Youview UHD box: With BT broadband 12/18 month contract and BT TV Entertainment Ultra HD 12 month contract: £0 for a new BT TV customer; £49 for an existing BT TV customer. Otherwise, full price £249. Cost of TV Entertainment UHD pack £20 per month. * * Entertainment Ultra HD is only available to BT Infinity Fibre Broadband customers with a minimum line speed of 44 Mb and is only available on YouView+ Ultra HD boxes provided by BT. -------------------------------------- So now, we know! |

Astra broadcast a UHD test channel via satellite. It is stunning quality.
You need a UHD tv with an HEVC tuner and direct satellite input. I unplug one of the feeds from my Sky Box and connect it to the TV. Don't know the bitrate, but it's on a transponder on its own. |

The BT version is over the Internet!

Currently so, as there's not even a broadcast standard yet, or for that matter not even an agreed standard for the TV's yet.
So what do we think will suffer when 4k starts broadcasting, having just 'upgraded' to a Sky HD box only to find out SD movies are appalling quality and with other posters saying their HD movies aren't much better? Maybe Sky might get rid of SD all together and bump everyone up before offering the 4k Pack for a small additional fee of course. |

Sky recently stopped the 3d channel possibly to create enough bandwidth for 4K!

So what's missing from the BT UHD box, obviously, is HDR but the rest is in place, consumers just need to make sure their shiny new 4K (or full HD if downscaling) TVs can handle it all... HDR aside. At the current offer price, I can see quite a few people getting the BT UHD box for the bigger hard drive, setting the output to 1080p/25 to match their TV, and planning to get their 4K TV some time later. In fact, as I'm not overly fussed about high spatial resolution, I'd quite like to try out the 50 fps at 720p, which my TV can handle, just to see the benefits of the higher frame rate on the sports. |

So everyone who wants this product will also need Infinity 2. I'm happy with Infinity 1, delivering 37+Mbps (just below the max for Infinity 1), however this speed is not enough for 4k.
This sounds like they will be lifting customers on Infinity 1 who want the "ultra" channel to higher speed to support 44Mbps? Source http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php...t-top-box.html |

I have infinity 2 with a line speed of 49+ but they are sawing the speed is not good enough I have resorted to emailing CEO of BT and he has responded saying he will get his exec team to contact me.
The last excuse was the system was coming up with an error! |

Source http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php...t-top-box.html Infinity 1 customers with a solid 38 Mbps data download speed are probably OK (UHD channel will be less than 30Mbps) but without that margin, any drop in line speed could push the data rate below 38Mbps and would jeopardize the quality of service when viewing/recording a UHD + an HD channel. BT won't want that, it would be very bad publicity. |

The last excuse was the system was coming up with an error! The thing is I have also been told that the exchange has to be able to handle it as well not just your line. So if they don't have the bandwidth at the exchange then they are going to have to upgrade the exchanges again. If Netflix or Amazon can stream 4K on 20mb/s you would expect though a BT UHD broadcast to not use a lot more. |

Same thing here I have a line speed of 55mb/s and I am told it's not adequate and I just happen to need 56mb/s. What a total bulls*it excuse from BT that a UHD broadcast can't run on that. My line at maximum has been 72mb/s over the last 3 years and averages around 60mb/s.
