I re-jiggled my set up the other day and decided to try plugging the scart out from my vcr into the scart in on my DVD player.
Tested it and it worked fine - got a picture on the TV from the video and everything!

Then, typically, stacked everything back up and pushed it back in to its alcove and...nothing!
No picture from the vcr on the tv although I get sound.

Any ideas what I've missed?
(All sounds a bit vague, I know, but ask if you want any more info).

Silly question but....

Have you made sure all the SCART leads are pushed fully home in their sockets. It's not difficult for a SCART to become partially unplugged, esspecially the types with thick cables. The sockets don't exactly grip the plugs very securely.

I've had a few cases where the pin inside the scart plug gets bent over and that stops sound or vision... it's not common but look at the scart plugs to make sure all the pins are nice and straight.....

Also as chrisjr says, check all plugs are firmly pushed in even if they looked pushed in.

Scart plugs.....uurghh.

I was having problems with my DVD Recorder, and replaced the scart with a thick cable, for one with a thinner cable and its working fine now, even better than before the problems!

Yep - seemed to be a loose connection somewhere. Pulled it all out again, replugged the scarts back in and kept the vcr running via the dvd while I pushed everything back into place just in case it all came undone again - works fine now.

Thanks for the pointers!

SCART has to be one of the worst connectors ever invented. Mind you trying to solder to a mini-din plug as used on a PC keyboard runs it a close second

The pins used are often horribly thin and can be all to easily bent. Or worse snapped off! There is next to no mechanical grip between socket and plug so they fall out at the slightest provocation. I have suffered the self same "move something and it stops working" problem myself. Usually caused by the SCART lead pulling the plug out of the socket!
