So have the viewers by the looks of it!
The point is, H&A has become unrecongnisable from its original remit - a family-oriented drama centred around a caravan park, involving many social issues which is what got it recognition in the first place. A soap should progress, evolve, develop, but it should never forget its roots, otherwise it's not true to itself, and therefore to its audience.
Now it's all white, all straight and largely teen-oriented. The real world isn't like this and I'm sure Australia isn't like this. If a soap doesn't in some way reflect reality on some level then it's not relatable and just away with the fairies, hence people switch off.
