Not sure what's going on with my cat

My cat is 17 but still very active and happy. We've taken her to the vets twice in the last nine months, but everything is fine. However, she's become very clingy. Whenever I go downstairs, she always comes out of the sitting room and starts meowing at me before following me back upstairs where she will sit for ten minutes before going back down again. She never used to do this. She will also wander up to my bedroom of her on accord and meow for a few minutes before wandering off again. I'm not sure if it's because she's old now. I’ve also noticed that she will sometimes sit in corners or behind things. Any advice?

Given her age my first thought is senility. Its not necessarily the end of the world, if it is that, do some research on the web and see if it fits.

That was my first thought too.... More vocalisations, strange behaviour and toilet/feeding issues in elderly cats can suggest dementia. It's fairly common in older cats, can be very manageable for a long time, have a read online and see the symptoms and whether they much up with your kitty.

I looked into it myself, our cat is 21, her health is not too great right now, some liver issues, on occasion I've wondered if she's a little 'confused' it's natural though, at such late years in life, to some extent at least! I didn't find the vet very useful in this respect, because a lot of the symptoms are behavioural and the vet can't really observe them.

Wishing the little one well OP!

Thank you for replying. I've looked up some articles about feline senile dementia, and my cat does have a few tell-tale signs. She seems all right. She's been sunbathing in the garden today. I will keep a close eye on her.
