At the end of Fame Academy, I made a formal complaint to the BBC regarding the shambles that was the final. I complained only about the shoe-horning of the final into the Comic Relief show, and was not critical of the voting method or result.
I received the response below today (nearly a month since I made my comments) - which had nothing to do with my complaint! Clearly the BBC must have had a lot of "vote rigging" complaints...
I have complained for a second time with my original complaint to see if I can actually get a response which matches my complaint... I'll keep you posted.

“Thank you for your e-mail.
We are committed to ensuring that the voting for Fame Academy is entirely fair and understand that viewers will share this concern.
The number of votes is recorded by BT and the SMS company that we use for the vote. They then pass these figures to us and they are relayed to the programme team. Every stage of the process is overseen by the Electoral Reform Society who oversee national and local elections in this country. The Society is contracted by the BBC as has the power to say they are not endorsing a result if they are concerned about any aspect of the vote collection. If you want to find out more about the organisation you can visit their website:

I should point out that the BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites.
The decision was taken not to release details about the number of votes for each contestant as this might reduce audience anticipation and make the competition more predictable.
Thank you again for contacting the BBC.”
