It really ****s me off when they do this!

Why do they release a phone thats crippled?!?!?!

They could at least follow Sony's lead with their compact range, the screen maybe smaller but the internals are not.

I would consider a "mini" variant of a phone as long as the stuff underneath matched the bigger brother. I never get why Samsung, LG, HTC and the rest release smaller devices that are shitter than the original....

EDIT:

Sorry I am not having a go at you

They release lower powered versions of the originals because not everybody wants or needs a top of the range phone. There is a big market of people that don't want to pay more then £25 a month on contract or around £200-£300 sim free so they need phones to appeal to them.
I understand where you are coming from with Sony compact range and it would be nice for the others to follow suit but they have probably weighed up the costs of production line and getting the networks to stock various sizes and colours so possibly isn't in their financial interest.

They do it so they can make money from stupid people. Samsung came up with the idea with the S3 Mini. Stupid people thought it was a mini version of the S3 and bought it. HTC and LG have just copied them. Sony got it all wrong with the Z1C and Z3C, those phones were just to good for stupid people.

Apple do the exact same with the iPhone6 Plus and the Compact/Mini Iphone 6.

It is really all in the labelling, one usually being a budget/cut down version.
