Found this clip of the episode where Hannah Ashworth was sectioned from 2007

Her anorexia is still for me the best HO storyline they've ever done and Emma Rigby is probably the best actress to have passed through the show, or at least top three. Watching the writing and acting in this makes me wonder how BK has gotten it so wrong this time around as if that storyline was on the show now, it would likely have an affair tacked on, the story would be dropped for two months and then Hannah would be killed off by the Gloved Hand Killer.

Honestly think the scene where Hannah was sectioned with 'My Skin' playing in the background is probably one of the best soap scenes of all time, incredible

I agree one of their best storylines.
Back when HO knew how to carry a hard hitting story to the end rather then have a good start then buggering it up and sweeping it under a carpet like they do now.
I really think BK thought he was invincible after his last stint and could do no wrong

It saddens me when I think just how good Hollyoaks was under Bryan the first time. I remember for a while actually looking more forward to Hollyoaks than I was Eastenders. What the show is now to then is so different.

This storyline still hits me hard when I see it. Totally agreed - the scene where they played My Skin while Hannah visited Melissa in hospital was heartbreaking, I cried my eyes out through it.

Obviously there were certain parts which were made more 'dramatic' for soap, but on the whole it was a brilliant portrayal with a lot of realism - the way it started off so slowly but completely took over everything, the fact that her family were trying to help but at the same time just couldn't understand, losing all her friends and only having Melissa, the 'competitiveness' of it, the paleness, the body image and wearing of baggy clothes, hiding the food, binging, the weight loss and excuses.

Apart from the My Skin/hospital scene, other scenes that really really stick in my mind were when Hannah ran upstairs and broke down in her mum's arms when her mum first realised (and the way she went back to 'normal' the next day, like nothing had happened and they were all overreacting), the scene where she was sectioned and the conversation with Rhys and Hannah on either side of the door, and the scene where Josh tried to forcefeed her and Rhys and Suzanne had to stop them. That scene just breaks my heart.

Her relapse had some great scenes too, and it was good to see it wasn't just completely forgotten about. When she was doing sit-ups, when Darren heard her purging, her collapse when she ran away with Darren. I liked the fact that it showed the other side of Darren too, when he genuinely cared and wanted to help.

I have anorexia (well, am almost at my target weight but the thoughts are still very strong), and an awful lot of it is relatable, so I think it was generally pretty realistic.

I cannot believe that HO now is the same show that used to produce fantastic storylines like Hannah's anorexia. What beggars belief is that this is all happening under the same producer!

Hannah's storyline developed in parallel to my own life, and I do think it helped me get on the road to recovery.

Of course there were soapisms that occured, but HO back in this era was proof that hardhitting issues could be explored honestly, with great scripts and fantastic acting. Nowadays it is an absolute parody of what a soap should be - and i refuse to watch until the show improves.

The best Hollyoaks story since Luke Morgan's rape.
