Wasn't sure whether to put this in the radio forum, but it's really about the musicians not the BBC:

"The BBC has told its producers and DJs not to play music by Neil Young, the Doors, Journey or Bonnie Raitt – or any cover versions of their songs, or tracks sampling them.

The BBC’s legal department has emailed staff and independent producers telling them that the four acts have withdrawn from the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society (MCPS). That means the BBC has no means of paying the artists for broadcast of their music, and so it cannot play their music without breaching copyright." - the Guardian

It's so bizarre it sounds like an April Fool but apparently those musicians have told their music publisher to withhold their music from the BBC unless the BBC negotiates to pay for it on a show-by-show basis. Very strange and in this case, it looks like we can't blame the evil music industry.

John Densmore and Robby Kreiger (Drummer and Guitarist) are still alive. Though they have both been at odds over The Doors music for a while. As Robby has wanted to go out and play their Music but Densmore refused to let him use The Doors name to promote it.

How ridiculous.

Although you do wonder what has driven those artists to withdraw from MCPS in the first place, it sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face to me....

Just heard Journey - Don't Stop Believin on the beeb. It was just after 7pm on the Mark Forrest show, so across all local BBC stations.
So the problem has either been resolved or didn't exist in the first place, or somebody has just made a boo boo! Which is it?
