Wow! Emmerdale puts other soaps to shame
Hi guys, I am new to Digital Spy, so please be gentle!
![]() Anyway... Having stopped watching Emmersale avidly for about 3-4 years, I have recently just started watching it again as I happened to be sitting in my house with Emmerdale on and I was impressed with it! To me personally, Emmerdale is always the most consistent out of EE and CS, I won't even include HO as it's just beyond ridiculouse now to the point where labelling it as a 'soap' is questionable... Back onto topic, there is always something going on in the Dales which I like and even the day-to-day eps are quite entertaininng and very watchable too! I am even more joyful to know that Charity is in prison as the character has always peeved me off, but she'll no doubt boomerang herself back very soon! It's a shame the show doesn't receive much more recognition. None of my friends or even family (apart from my aunt and granny) watch ED. My friends immediately diss it and call it the show about cows and sheep... ! Thoughts?

I agree with you. Emmerdale is brilliant. Part of it is they don't tell you what
's going to happen before each episode. I also watch CS but can't say the same for it. |

Emmerdale goes out 6 times a week and is placed at a major disadvantage during the autumn-winter months with their location, yet still churn out superb episodes and strike the balance of humour and drama brilliantly... EastEnders goes out 4 times a week and can produce vast amounts of so-so episodes! And I am an EE fan, it is my favourite soap, but if ED keeps engaging me, then that could all change, highly doubtful as EE has always been my No.1 soap, but ED is definitely a close second. As for Corrie, I don't know how to say this without being crucified, but 70% of their cast cannot act and at least 80% of their characters are either irrelevent or stale. When Anne Kirbride passed, I simply have no reason to want to watch it now! |

I really love that more people are finding their way to Emmerdale - it's so entertaining at the moment, and completely underrated. Had a fantastic year last year, and the one before, and has barely been recognised. It's a shame.
Anyway, I hate to tell you but
Spoiler
But then I love her, so I'm OK with it.

I really agree about corrie, it's just terrible. There's 3 or so actors in the programme and all the rest are just extras at best, it's literally in dire straits but the prob is where all still watching. Out of habit in our house but it's just to bad latley

It really annoys me when people start to compare the two programmes..they are totally different..CS is more down to earth and slightly more realistic....where as ED is good entertainment but totally unrealistic...take them both for what they are..entertainment...it is strange though CS always get the higher viewing figures and awards

Eastenders is the best soap for outstanding individual episodes. The recent episode starring Kat and June Whitfield for example was an outstanding piece of one off drama. But on a daily basis Emmerdale has it well beaten, it's just far more consistent with a better group of characters, better stories, better balance and a quality level which rarely drops. I no longer watch Coronation Street but I tuned in for this past week. Based on these episodes I think it's fair to say Emmerdale is the UK'S superior soap by a distance.

![]() I watched CS this week and the chopping and changing between Deirdre's death and Callum was very, very wrong! The gust of wind in the pub was badly acted too and just a bit much imo. |

i do take them both for what they are, but corrie has gone from brilliant, a few years ago, to utter rubbish now, and that as my point made is due to a terrible bunch of non actors, shocking writers and the hat
