Strange that. The card replacement should have happened last year 2014 and didn't. I would have thought that it would have therefore happened this year and still hasn't. It is looking unlikely that it will happen now as Sky does not like to undertake such projects once Christmas starts to come near. Maybe next year? Maybe not?
Well as it costs them a great many millions to replace the cards, they always try and hold off as long as they can - but as far as I was aware they are contractually obliged to replace them every five years?. Perhaps that obligation has lapsed now?, or been renegotiated?.

In that case Im suspecting that they arent changing the cards yet, as whatever new cards likely wont be compatible with older boxes.
If that is the case, its likely a good enough reason to delay the card swap, until they have enough new boxes to replace all the white boxes subscriber's have.
Any non subscribers who use cards for BT sport will likely be left out, when it finally happens.

It would presumably be up to BT to replace those cards?.

Or Sky would re-issue the cards for everyone with some sort of subscription, given that BT will likely be paying large fees for the privilege of using Sky's encryption system and subscriber management backend, plus fees for each individual customer that signs up

And the fact that new cardsite might not work on older boxes once it actually happens, could upset people, butif they are not subscribingto sky at that point they can't blame sky for new cardstaff not working with their equipment.

That might be a fair point but as far as I know there are currently no plans to swap out old SD only boxes which many subscribers still have for Sky+ HD boxes, which of course would be of great benefit to Sky as this would allow them to switch transponders from DVBS to DVBS2 thus bringing about much greater efficiency and economic use of the transponders, all combined with the greater security that comes with, and putting a final stop to any illegal activities.

The impression of the sequence for this to work I'm getting, is it needs to have been the original card in the box, subscription ended, box disconnected & left idle for a while - then bought back later into service - would this be correct?

PS Mine is also still recording & playing, with no subscription

Not with the current white cards, no.

That worked for the previous card (the blue house card i believe), where the Sky+ features were disabled after you cancelled (so removing the card for x months meant it missed the disable signal), whereas the current white cards get a keep alive signal, if it misses it, the features go to sleep until it receives a new wake up signal, which, if it is a cancelled account, the Sky+ wake up signal will never come.

As for yours working, someone must have done it in error, the fact only 1 or 2 people have reported it, rather than hundreds, would indicate this is the case.

So it seems these are quite rare then?
The sequence of events from my POV is as follows: Purchased Box & card from a car-boot fair, when it was plugged in a week later, it was still working on subscription channels (discovery, sports etc) for about 3 weeks - at that time I wiped the HDD of all the old recordings from the "Secret menu" , it then reverted to being a freesat type box. I was not aware it MIGHT even record, until I read on DS, that someone else had succeeded, tried it on mine & bingo, it worked - & still does so

You can't reorder the channels but you can delete them.
Select settings > (now notice the very large arrow) Right - Editable channels.
I would add that on Freesat Freetime boxes the channels are in a very decent order as it is (with a few exceptions), so the fact you cannot re-order is not that an important feature not to have. Of course we have been spoiled by terrestrial Freeview devices, where you can normally do what ever you want with the channels.

I wonder if you've unknowingly got the offer mentioned in this thread, of 6 months free Sky+ features?

Yes, I thought exactly the same - his email could have easily got lost in the spam file.

It would seem likely wouldn't it?

I wonder if he'll be so keen to keep telling us it's stopped once the offer runs out?

Are you talking about me? you rude lot
But I have never subscribed to Sky, I've had the box for a long time - much longer than 6 months! It is a glitch, but if it ends, I promise to let you know!

Not everyone frequents the DS Freesat forum though . But, yeah it must be pretty rare, bizarre that Sky can't turn it off .

What make and model of Sky HD box are they working in?
I have two old "blue" cards that are still working to record and playback FTA channels but they will not work in the latest Amstrad/Sky DRX890 boxes - only in my Pace 850 and Thompson HD+ boxes.
