Signal problem - Phone, SIM or network?
Hi guys
I have an iPhone 6 and keep having problems with passing data over the Vodafone network. A few weeks ago I had the handset replaced by Apple. I was running iOS 8.3, and basically, sometimes when I was in an area I knew I should have signal, the iPhone would report no signal (my work phone is also Vodafone and would report signal). Cycling airplane mode wouldn't fix it, it would take a full reboot of the phone to ger signal back. I tried a new sim, fresh, manual restore of 8.3 (so didn't restore from backup) but nothing cured it so apple replaced it. Now, the replacement I have is running iOS 8.4, and has a similar but slightly different problem. The phone reports it ha signal but when I try and use it, it will not pass data (it won't even send a short iMessage let alone browse). If I cycle airplane mode, it starts working instantly. I've tried a new SIM card but that hasn't helped. I haven't tried a restore yet because I'm running 8.4 instead of 8.3 now. Is this new problem more likely to be a handset/software issue, a network issue or a SIM card issue? Want to know whether it's worth another visit to the Apple Store because the nearest is over an hour away. Thanks |

When you are having these problems, are you away from any WiFi connections? I'm just wondering if the phone is trying to use WiFi rather than cellular data.

I'm away from any WiFi connections I could be trying to connect to. The only WiFi networks I have in my phone are my home one and my parents house.
My problem has happened in a multitude of places and only when I'm away from those two places |

If you can use it in certain locations and it works, it's not a sim issue.
You say both phones are on Vodafone, so one is an iPhone 6, what is your work phone, and does it work for data in these bad areas? |

Yes the other is a HTC One M8 on Vodafone and doesn't appear to have any issues

Maybe the iPhone 6, like my Galaxy S6, just has poor antenna design, or the actual iPhone 6 is faulty. One place in particular I notice my Galaxy S6 cannot get 3G at all on EE whereas the M8 holds onto it with 1-2 bars, the S6 sits on GPRS from the same site. Other places I find the signal drops out but the M8 is still usable, both on EE. |

I also have a HTC M8, but I have no experience with the iPhone 6. I do however have a Galaxy S6 that just like your iPhone, becomes unusable in certain areas where the M8 does not.

Put myself on the iOS 9 beta and problem still exists, although doesn't seem as frequent.
Any idea if software or hardware? |
