Dog won't poop!
Karis
11-07-2015
Zach has damaged the tendons in his foot and he will not poop. Its been 3 days now and he normally goes about 18 times a day (not a joke).

He only did his first pee today so should I be worried or should I just wait it out.

He is back at the vets on Tuesday but I'm not sure whether I'm worrying overly

Because of his loss of mobility and not being able to get outside?

If he's behaving normally apart from not having a poo then I wouldn't worry.

Does the vet know that he normally does it 18 times in one day?

Some vet's have a branch that is open 24 hours so you could ring someone if you were concerned.

He certainly does plenty of poops lol

I just checked my calendar and he last pooped on Wednesday night at 11 p.m. We went for a walk, I don't keep a poop journal lol

He only had his first pee today as he couldn't work out how to walk on three legs without falling over (he's a dummy).

I think I will try him again now and again tomorrow morning and if he doesn't go I will call the vet.

Good advice again

Has he had painkillers? They can be very constipating (is that even a word?) and if he's anxious about falling over too that won't help. Plenty to drink helps to get them going if it's that. It'll help him practise peeing on three legs too!

THANKS

I'm hopeful he'll be feeling better today. No signs of it, yet, but I'm going to take him to the park and demand poopage!

OK so that might not actually work, but I can hope!

And finally the "heavens" opened and the mutt passed something akin to lead!

Phew!

Just thought I'd let you all know :P

It only took him 7 full days. His vet said he was fine and they can hold it in as long as they have to...

SO WHY DOES HE FEEL THE NEED TO POOP SIXTEEN TIMES A DAY ON WALKIES!

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

IT'S NOT FAIR. Not fair, I tell you :P

It's all for your benefit, don't you know anything.

You take said Mutt out a couple of times a day, he poops, you say good boy, he sees you pick it up and wrap it with love and care, he then sees you pop it in a postbox, so you must be sending someone a present. He thinks he's helping you!

(This is what my hound tells me anyway)

I never realised this was the cycle of lif... poop! Not sure I like it. Why can't we train them to pick up their own poop!?

To be honest, he's now got really good at motoring around on three paws. He's finally getting better so it'll be a shame not to see his funny hopping about any more.

My dog, nicknamed 'The S**t Machine' after his toilet habits when he was a puppy. I used to be his poop buddy, standing in the garden late at night in the pouring rain trying to get him to poop before bed so he didn't poop himself during the night- he used to anyway most the time!
He now comes outside and try's to 'help' me when I'm cleaning up after him. He sits there and gives me puppydogeyes!

Lord knows what you're feeding the dog if it seriously has 17 craps a day.

I'd be seriously examining my dogs diet of that isn't a joke.

I have two dogs. Both crap once a day.

If I am not quick enough Elsie will happily pick up after herself and Betty - no bagging it though she eats it

It's not a joke. They've been examined - OMG have they been examined - by the vets and they poop LOADS.

People think I'm joking until they see it for themselves. It's not quite as bad as I make out. Lately they're back on meat and so their poops are quite small, but they do go about 4 - 6 times each a day! LOL. I get through a good 100 poop bags in a week!

Lately, though, they've been going less but doing larger poops. Which suits me much better Today it was only 2 / 3 each

I think the record for most poops stands at 18 between them. I'm sure they were very proud.

What diet are they on?
Are they up to date with worming?

If my dog was crappign that often, I'd be very concerned.

Could be a learned behaviour, especially if they've been told off during house training (sometimes they don't finish)..... are they overweight?

This thread isn't an issue any more as he did finally poop.

There really isn't anything wrong with either of them. They are perfectly in weight and healthy. They just poop a lot! I think they enjoy driving me nuts with a bunch of poops

Most Cavalier owners I know say their furbabies poop three times on average! My friend's two do the same.

As for diet, they're on a combination of meat and Orijen. But they've always had the same plentiful pooping issues, so it's probably that they know they can go out whenever they like (they get four walks a day) so they know they can poop whenever they need to.

I've told you before Karis, it's all for your benefit

Mine will hoover up his breakfast in the morning and then pop out a couple of foot longs (I kid you not). Sometimes if he's a bit bored he will reverse up to a wire fence at the park and try and poop through the wire, he will then watch with a grin as we struggle to reach through the fence to pick it up. He will probably do another one n(ot quite as big) on the evening walk. My boy is just a poo machine.

Obviously this has been resolved, but anyone with the same issue should feed their dog a spoonful of olive oil rather than let them stay constipated for an entire week after surgery when they're already in pain.

What would be MORE useful would be if said person takes their dog to the vets and gets them checked out by an extremely competent vet for signs of blockages, obstructions, or problems. AND then when they get sent home and, as advised, was absolutely fine, they post online to discuss...

That's probably better advice than listening to your comments, to be fair. But don't worry, if he's ever not pooping again due to his medical history, which you are obviously fully aware of, I'll be sure to give him some olive oil to cure his "constipation".

Zach did exactly that the other day and pooped through the wire fence on the construction site leaving a little brown message of love for the builders.

I did go back the next morning to see if I could get in and clean it up but all the torrential rain had washed it away.

Little crapper!

What's the worst place yours have pooped? Mine was outside a really classy lingerie shop. Zach decided he was going to poop UP AGAINST THE gleaming white paint under the window - then smeared it all the way down the wall - and then, if that wasn't enough, took a step left, then continued to smear it all across the door as well. The horror doesn't describe it!

I stood in apoplexy! Then I had to go inside, apologise (amazingly, the owner found I funny as I was horrified). I went to Tesco, got a load of cleaning wipes and made it look good as new, but I was mortified that one dog could make SO MUCH POOP.

Just SO SO much poop!

A mate of mine used to hold his Jack Russell over the loo and squeeze its stomach until it conveniently crapped into the bowl. Honestly.

See, you didn't believe me. I told pooping is always for your benefit (or the builders benefit, whichever is more fun). These little crappers have a sick sense of humour.

Oh I totally believed you!

I bet my boys sit and scheme as to who can do the most annoying poop. Whether it's in the long grass so the blades of grass slice open the bags, or whether they save up the icky ones to do them on the pavements.

I'm sure this really happens!
