This is one thing I really don't get about Big Brother. A grown man not being able to spell canoe; not knowing who Shakespeare is; thinking East Anglia is 'abroad'; all of these for me automatically make me think less of a person.

There's stupid and there's stupid, but that kind of ignorance just shows a complete disregard for the world you live in. I know some hms in the past have put it on, but we have an absolute half-wit (Danny) being deified and admired both inside and outside the house. I would have thought that people would pity and perhaps feel somewhat protective of someone who's genuinely stupid. However, supporting him as a winner? Thinking he's desirable? Isn't that skewed?

I really have no time for ignorance. I don't find it endearing or funny, when it comes to lack of BASIC knowledge.

Never in my life have I met such stupid people, it's got to be an act, I don't believe it at all.

It's depressing how stupidity and ignorance are being celebrated and applauded in this country. I honestly feel it's damaging the prospects of this generation and the next.

Chloe, Harriet and Danny all seemed to take pride in the fact that they're uneducated and ignorant, it's a sad predicament.

I'd definitely prefer the person who walked into a room and couldn't spell canoe etc, to the stranger, who, on entering a room asked a girl if she was pregnant then, in the next breath, questioned whether she had a SDI.

But each to their own.

It's a weird thing for sure that wilful stupidity seems to be actively fetishised nowadays. I can understand it being overlooked if someone has genuinely positive qualities to counterbalance the lack of basic cognitive ability but that's certainly not something I see in Danny.

I suppose there was a time when the sheer absurdity of 'East Angular' being a foreign country etc was funny and therefore somewhat endearing but it's a schtick that's long since worn thin.

Well if I knew nothing else about them, I might agree. But that's not all that's to either of the people you're talking about, now is it?

My theory is that the sort of people who apply to be in Big Brother are, by definition, the ones who are comfortable with the idea of being out of touch with the news and current affairs for two or three months. They have relatively shallow lives in the real world, they don't watch the news or take notice of current affairs, and they tend not to read books or newspapers. They wouldn't be the sort of people to have encountered the word "canoe" in written form, or to have seen a map of England with the regional names on it. They function well enough to survive; they are not stupid but they are shallow.

For many, ignorance is endearing. It adds to the girl/guy next door narrative.

You hit the nail on the head there. I have no idea what that type of attitude is applauded. I despair when it is, it's one of the most depressing aspects of watching Big Brother.

I've had this conversation tonight in the Cristian pointing at the moon thread. It's the total lack of curiosity and willingness to learn that gets me.

I would never look down on anyone who has had a stunted or non-existent education because there could be a myriad of reason for that. I will not stand for willful ignorance and for those that dismiss intelligence as something other people have, sneer at it and almost celebrate their own idiocy.

I'm not Joel's biggest fan but it's ridiculous that it was used in that BB poll in relation to manipulation. It's up to the others in there to raise their intelligence so they can keep up with him, not for him to dumb down.

Perhaps it is simply a case of like attracting like.

I don't see it as stupidity as we each find things in people we like or dislike that has nothing to do with level of intelligence it's part of light entertainment and if bb did not exist you would no doubt see Danny on another type of similar show
I applaud him for going on these show he may not be bright but he sure is brave and determined

This thread is patently about Danny and his attitude towards Christian, and his revelling in his inanity and his fans' appreciation of his dimness. It's also about Chloe and Danny's disdain for Christian's education. It has four fifths of nothing to do with Marc. Off you trot.

It's a shame that he's not so determined on expanding his vocab or improving his spelling abilities.
