I am pretty sure most of our politicians are good at spelling but that does not stop them from behaving like brainless morons.

Intelligence is not about how good you spell its about how good you think.......

It's a shame that he's not so determined on expanding his vocab or improving his spelling abilities.
But it all fits together so perfectly. I'll bet at the age of 29 his mother still takes his dinners to him in his bedroom. He's never washed a dirty plate and he'd suffocate under a pile of dirty clothes if someone else didn't put them in the washing machine for him.
He's most likely never stuck a job for more than a few months and failed miserably at school.
But for all that he still thinks he's the voice of reason and the rest of them must never question his words of wisdom.
Like most z-lister wannabes he has absolutely zero credible life goals because that would involve doing some real work.
He's a bit tragic really.

I'll take someone who has difficulty spelling any day. Over pompous people who may be good with words and who may be very good at debating. Of course not everyone who is good at these thing's is pompous. But the ones who are that way are far more annoying than someone who can't spell e.t.c.
What you're saying would be all well and good if Danny was not pompous. He's the dumbest and most arrogant house mates. The intelligent house mates (Nick, Marc and Joel) could be reasoned; Danny would just fly off the handle and has always been too arrogant to consider the possibility that he was in the wrong.

What is really disturbing is that whenever the occasional intelligent housemate is put in they are automatically the subject of derision and suspicion as though knowing who the Prime Minister is or what the War was about, is a sign of being some evil and dark necromancer.

As a viewer, I'm not embarrassed by the stupidity of people I have only ever seen on the TV.
They should be embarrassed for themselves though (although I don't think any of them are self-aware enough).

I've had this conversation tonight in the Cristian pointing at the moon thread. It's the total lack of curiosity and willingness to learn that gets me.

I would never look down on anyone who has had a stunted or non-existent education because there could be a myriad of reason for that. I will not stand for willful ignorance and for those that dismiss intelligence as something other people have, sneer at it and almost celebrate their own idiocy.

I'm not Joel's biggest fan but it's ridiculous that it was used in that BB poll in relation to manipulation. It's up to the others in there to raise their intelligence so they can keep up with him, not for him to dumb down.

Couldn't agree more. Well said.

But did they not go to school? Did they never pick up any knowledge along the way as most - sorry to say it - normal people do? You don't have to be up on current affairs to possess some basic knowledge.
How the hell can someone get to Danny's age and not be able to tell the difference between the moon and the sun?
That's not just shallow but incredibly stupid too. Unless you're 5 years old.
Sadly we now live in a world which has indeed 'dumbed down', whether or not that's put on I'm not too sure. I do think BB contestants (& other reality shows), want people who aren't that bright, or who are good at pretending to be stupid (think Brian Belo), he's made a career out of appearing to be thick. It gets them to places they could only have dreamed of before. Little wonder more & more aspire to that when that's all producers are looking for!
Stupidity is applauded nowadays, people want to be 'famous', not to be famous for something admirable, but, 'just famous', & clearly think all that involves is being on the front cover of a magazine. Doesn't matter if said photograph/s involves salacious gossip, compromising pics, fat/thin pictures, anything like that is considered to be 'making it'.

Well bb isn't mastermind and you don't need a degree or be a general knowledge guru to apply
I don't see it as stupidity as we each find things in people we like or dislike that has nothing to do with level of intelligence it's part of light entertainment and if bb did not exist you would no doubt see Danny on another type of similar show
I applaud him for going on these show he may not be bright but he sure is brave and determined
To reach his goals Would be great if he won
Here's hoping!
I agree with you, maybe next year bb should ask for intelligent people to apply, so one does not upset the viewers

I am more embarrassed for people who open thread after thread just to show how stupid certain housemates are. Yeah itīs really funny to mock people who arenīt that intelligent isnīt it? Especially when itīs about the housemate that is hated because he wasnīt a fan of the forums fave.

It's a combination of "the Forrest Gump/ Bambi effect" whereby those of us who can spell simple words and know the difference between the sun and the moon are supposed to go "Awwww, cute"... and if we don't there is always the Inverted Snobbery card to play: we must be discriminating against the Deliberately Thick and are therefore cruel and stuck up.
There's little to be gained in BB from revealing you know some stuff, but potentially quite a lot from pretending you don't.

It's depressing how stupidity and ignorance are being celebrated and applauded in this country. I honestly feel it's damaging the prospects of this generation and the next.

Chloe, Harriet and Danny all seemed to take pride in the fact that they're uneducated and ignorant, it's a sad predicament.
I asked my 7, 9 and 11 y.o. granddaughters, how to spell canoe, plus a few other more difficult questions, and was glad to say they passed. I began to worry about what sort of state education they were getting after watching the show.

I think it's more concern and disappointment than mocking. Tbh there's nothing that's hilarious about someone in their twenties being ignorant of basic things that an 11-year-old is able to grasp. Also, I think that a lot of people are tired of over saturation of the dumbing down and worship of stupidity.

Well props to your family. Obviously the children in your family are being raised right.

Yeah thats the thing. Why does everyone assume he is ignorant and doesnīt want to learn? When did he ever say that? What he said was that he learned so much from Joel and thinks that is a great thing. Maybe he has a learning disability and it takes him longer to learn something new.

And who worshipes stupidity? I never seen anyone who does that.

Have you read the thread? No, it's not even vaguely funny that a grown man is that ignorant and is so arrogant about his ignorance.

I'm inclined to agree with you about Danny, but housemates have always tended to be woefully poor at 'general knowledge' questions -- even HMs most people regard as intelligent. I don't know whether it reflects a general level of ignorance in the UK, or whether it's something about people who want to spend months on tv, but it's been very noticeable over the years (even though most examples are soon forgotten).
I do think it's become more accepted recently, though. I recall Jade BB3's hms having that facial expression somewhere between astonishment and amusement when she came out with some of her worse statements. Contrast that with the hms' apparently genuine high regard for Danny spelling canoe. Apart from Nick, who was definitely finding it hard not to laugh, they were genuinely impressed. Watching it, I felt like an alien visitor.

Because sometimes actions speak louder than words. Does someone who doesn't even know how to spell an easy 5 letter word, who the 1st man on the moon was or What Issac Newton is famous for sound like a person that's adequately versed in basic knowledge? Don't you think that someone who actually wants to learn and build on knowledge would already know basic level facts as the one's stated above?

Society worships stupidity. That's why in part Jade Goody, Brian Belo and Joey Essex have done so well.

Well if he has a learning disability then fair enough but i doubt BB would be that callous to assault someone with a diagnosed learning disability with a spelling task.

It didnīt look like he was serious about that. He just said the first name coming to his mind at this moment. And i bet a lot of people under 40 donīt know the answer. I am not english and i didnīt know how to spell canoe either because i never ever had to use that word.

I remember a BB contestant asking if there is a train from England to New York. Now THAT is what i call dumb. That are things that annoy me. Not beeing able to spell and not knowing who was the first man on the moon is not good but isnīt the most awful thing either.

That's complete different if English isn't your 1st language.

Seriously?? Folks don't know about Neil Armstrong Or Buzz Aldrin? If that's true that, no wonder there's a panic about young Brits not being up to scratch in terms of education.

I'm more concerned at the rise of the 'tell it as it is' and 'only I tell the trooth' type of nasty HM, and the support they garner because its "entertaining" - perhaps it may be true that people who like the "dumb" HMs identify with them, it is also the same for those who love the nasty ones.

Canoe is not a word that crops up everyday. In fact, a HM stated when is Canoe ever really going to come up in an everyday sentence. If I had not seen it written before I'm pretty sure I'd struggle to spell it.

Good points Harry. agree with you. Downright nastiness and abusive language is admired and applauded & a spelling error or perceived lack of intelligence/education is deemed embarrassing

Absolutely. What world is this where people support nastiness and want people to walk over people just for entertainment or "expose the truth". I rather watch the stupid ones, because they are harmless.

This thread is patently about Danny and his attitude towards Christian, and his revelling in his inanity and his fans' appreciation of his dimness. It's also about Chloe and Danny's disdain for Christian's education.
I don't think Danny revels in his inanity at all. On the contrary, I think it's a major sore spot for him and why he reacts so defensively and aggressively when something or someone highlights his ignorance.

He's the oldest in there, but easily the least intelligent, with the most limited vocabulary, and is acutely aware that not being able to spell the simplest words or being utterly clueless about what should be basic general knowledge is impacting on his self-appointed 'wise old owl' status.

All you need to look at is how angrily and defensively he reacts in the aftermath of saying something really stupid. It's a big deal for him, hence attack being his first and only line of defence.

And I don't think his fans appreciate his dimness. What I see on here is mostly fans disliking attention being drawn to it.
