I agree but why single out Charlotte? Has Lorraine done this to anyone else?

There was a thread in here the other day where someone while talking about Joel, said that "big words" should be kept for school or the workplace.

Going on the poll last night and the scorn the housemates have for Joel this seems to be a popular opinion. Stupidity is celebrated. Intelligence is looked on as smugness. I don't even think people feel threatened by a clever person, they seem to think using words of one syllable is doing something wrong.

I worry for future generations. Knowledge today is available at our fingertips. You don't need to go and read a book or go out of your way to find anything out. It's all right there and nobody is interested. Making an effort to spell correctly or to know about anything out with your social circle is looked on as strange.

It is, for me, the biggest problem I have with bb. I want to hear intelligent conversation. I am sick of hearing about takeaway food and peoples sex lives.”

A very good post saying more or less what I did in my post but in a different way,I hate when intelligent people are put down and thick lazy people are admired. Some people can't help it and don't wish to pull them down at all but it's the lazy I don't have to types who really get my back up.

Yes, it's a sad state of affairs. I think this all started with Jade Goody - the serial uneducated suddenly had a role model. A role model with book and perfume deals, and the first person that I can recall that was publicly celebrated (by some) for their stupidity. Suddenly it was not just ok to be stupid, it was something to aspire to.

For this reason I think BB will attract more than it's fair share of uneducated people as it's a quick and easy route to fame and money, and actually wanting to appear on the show is imo not a very intelligent decision - for the intelligent.

Rather than asking if the likes of Joel are using their intelligence to manipulate people we should be asking if certain HM's are using their lack of intelligence to manipulate people, because that's exactly what I have been seeing in every BB since Jade Goody.

That's the problem. These fame hungry kids see the likes of Jade Goody, Amy Childs, Joey Essex become rich and famous by playing the 'I'm fick me, is a carrot an animal, is France in England, Sherlock Holmes discovered America' act and they want some of that.
So it seems that anyone with the general knowledge of an average 11 year old is considered on par with Einstein and not to be trusted

There's stupid and there's stupid, but that kind of ignorance just shows a complete disregard for the world you live in. I know some hms in the past have put it on, but we have an absolute half-wit (Danny) being deified and admired both inside and outside the house. I would have thought that people would pity and perhaps feel somewhat protective of someone who's genuinely stupid. However, supporting him as a winner? Thinking he's desirable? Isn't that skewed?

Is natural selection completely f***ed? ”

What about Chloe saying she couldn't spell famous. what an absolute idiot! There is no excuse for an adult trying to come across as thick.

So a thread bashing a HM who has been identified as unintelligent and discussing his fans/people who like him in a condescending manner is OK then.

FYI - I'm not a fan myself - Danny is too bland for me to like or dislike tbh - but if I were I'm not sure I'd want to post on here. Its can be a really hostile place
People on this board have advocated nasty 'tell it how it is' behaviour - Marc and Helen were and still are very popular.

Book Knowledge is great, but if you have zero social intelligence (i.e. skills) then you are screwed.

There's not much difference depending on how you look at it. Someone who doesn'r know how to talk around a stranger is a complete brainless moron too IMO. Especially if they are supposed to be intelligent or think they are compared to the others!

Is the BIB really true or is that just a bit of poetic licence?

Ha, so true. It's almost like the use of 'big' words is an incantation that opens portals to other worlds and not someone just displaying or enjoying the richness of language.

As you're upset by derailing (although until now I can't see any) it seems appropriate that I tell you that this comment is entirely unrelated to your point about Danny being adored and deified.
He isn't of course so that's tricky when you can't substantiate the claim.

Maybe you're trying distraction. I'm pretty sure you've accused him of that.

Social intelligence is more important because that defines who you are as a person. People like Marc and Helen have very low social intelligence imo. Maybe not so much Marc, i think he plays the asshole act on purpose but Helen for sure.

I don't think that's true, do you have some examples of nice and intelligent people who were classed as evil?

Well, |'ve never actually heard it said but, I wouldn't be shocked if one of the zelebrity thickos struggled to answer the question 'carrot, animal, vegetable or mineral?'

Or worrying that the only effective means of throwing people off track is using words you think they won't understand

All good points.
It's nice to be clever but it's equally valuable to be kind decent helpful caring etc.
I'm not sure Danny is much of a do gooder mind, he seems a bit shallow and self important to me, I'm sure he means well but I don't think he delivers
However, on a general note . It's not good to be bright and nasty, I'd rather have a not too bright but kind and thoughtful friend.

If an argument is sound, or a question valid, it can be presented in the plainest of language and still stand up.

I do recall Helen BB2 genuinely asking about chicken and their relationship to chick peas, or do I?

at least it gave us the entertaining moment of all the housemates saying 'well done Danny' in unison like he'd just taken his first shit outside a nappy

I was wondering why they were all so tense around the spelling of that word.

I have a recollection of a spelling test from a former BB, I think it was chicken Stu asked to spell onomatopoeia.

Times have changed
