After 16 years, people moan about bad language on big brother. Very silly. It does air after watershed and we could not be given any more warning at the start of each episode.
I bet its all dried up old codgers complaining The sexual orientation discrmination amuses me as I don't recall any of that sort of thing happening this season. Surely after 16 years they must have grasped what it's all about by now. What do they honestly think they're gonna be watching? Not only does it baffle me silly .... there are over 2000 of them out there

“Ofcom assessed a number of complaints about bullying in Big Brother and has decided they do not raise issues under our rules warranting further investigation,” said the spokesperson. “We were satisfied that Channel 5 had broadcast clear and appropriate warnings about the potentially offensive content, and that it intervened in heated exchanges and situations at appropriate times. “We also took into account audience expectations for this reality format and the fact that the series was broadcast after the watershed.”

I've often wondered if Ofcom have to hire extra temp workers when they know there's a series of BB coming up ... at least it would benefit the workforce
![]() I have to wonder what these viewers are expecting from a show that has such extreme warnings before it even starts. |

Many of us expect an awful lot from BB including bullying, is that why it should be beyond criticism? I think Ofcom would say no but in reality there actions speak louder.

Of course it's not beyond criticism, but really - 2000 complaints, all rejected. One has to wonder why these people watch.
I think Ofcom are putting blinkers on. In no way is it "generally acceptable" to bate, into argument, contestants on a reality tv format. i.e Ofcom shouldn't be taking into account their perception of viewer expectation. |

BB is a great show in many respects they enjoy it except when it goes too far.

You get complaints about some things, then there are those who complain at Aaron's ejection from the house, some people are never happy. If we start diluting BB any more than it already is, we may as well watch TOWIE or Made in Chelsea. Yes it's manipulated, heavily, but we know that going in. C5 have been doing it, and doing it more each season. At the end of the day, though, nobody makes the housemates fight... they do have freedom of will and of expression, it's why they are there. ETA: And BB is there to rein them in when they go too far. |

I note that someone has posted this above, but I found it easier to summarise the key areas of complaint. I reality most of them only involve complaints form one or a small handful of viewers. Except for the 24th of June which garnered 2,024 complaints for 'Generally accepted standards' . It was a Wednesday show so quite what was going on I can't remember.
Below are the others: Race discrimination/offence. Generally accepted standards. Due impartiality/bias. Sexual orientation discrimination/offence. Gender discrimination/offence. Violence and dangerous behaviour. Outside of remit / other. Scheduling. Disability discrimination/offence. Edit: the 24th was the night Brian jumped over the wall in act of attention seeking. |

The disability discrimination presumably is regarding Nikki's eating disorder - didn't Helen say something derogatory about her weight?
But what failed to be shown was Nikki making comments about Harry's weight |

Perhaps the complaints were against the housemates rather than BB - it could easily have been the wording they used rather than against BB's manipulation. Mind you, there was a time we all watched Fight Night, pretty much live, and were fascinated to see it unfold.
You're right though, my point may be better expressed outside the confines of this particular ruling because this ruling focuses on House-mates behavior where as my complaint is about BB manipulation. Quote:
You get complaints about some things, then there are those who complain at Aaron's ejection from the house, some people are never happy. Aarons ejection was more to do with wanting him out to facillitate Marc's games than fearing controversy imo.If we start diluting BB any more than it already is, we may as well watch TOWIE or Made in Chelsea. And how can you say BB is being diluted after Marc and Helens behavior?. BB is far more extreme than ever. It's moving away from Towie at a fast pace. Quote:

At the end of the day, though, nobody makes the housemates fight... they do have freedom of will and of expression, it's why they are there. Pressure is applied to fight, some are victims of that pressure look at they way Harry reacted to provocation. What ever you say about her freedom to react in the way she wants how do you justify BB's freedom to bate? Who is the bigger person Harry or BB.ETA: And BB is there to rein them in when they go too far. There is something fundamentally wrong imo with bate and save behavior, provoke then intervene, it's shit stirring then taking a moral stance over the ramifications. Bonkers.

Ofcom rejected the complaints because BB took what they considered was approriate action.
