Hi all,
I posted a few days ago about choosing between these TVs:
Panasonic TX50AS500B
Panasonic TX50CS520B
Panasonic TX50AS600B
Panasonic TX50AS650B
I still havent decided so if anyone has any insider info lol or a better 50" to buy pls let me know!!
Any way - I'm buying for my son(s) - I have twins. For their bdays I'm getting them TV, AV receiver, speakers, blu ray player (so two of each) so am spending a big chunk of my life savings. Should I ask for discount cos its a big order when I go into the shop?
Thx Pete

If you have a Richer Sound branch near you, go in and have a chat. The sales persons compared to most know what they are selling and have a lot of leeway to make decent deals. They also offer an excellent 5yr warranty for very little extra.

Take a look at the Which reports on the best retailers.

Your sons are very fortunate in having a generous father

Don't think I have ever read a more condescending post

It's nothing to do with you, or your opinions what the OP wants to spend his money on.

If I had unlimited funds I would build myself a home cinema building, that's my perogative.

When I retired I took my Kids and Grandkids to Florida, my choice and sod all to do with you.

You must not read many forums then if that's the worst you've seen

If someone posts on a forum then surely you can comment if you wish?

If I had unlimited funds I'd do as I chose as well but op said they were using a large chunk of their life savings to buy the items...so certainly doesn't sound like unlimited funds.

Complete rubbish, the OP might have a million pounds, a large chunk 25% is a lot of money.

Yes you can comment but making massive assumptions without the facts makes your post completely worthless. You didn't even say what in your opinion, would be more worthwhile

Yes I read and post on many forums.

Take look at my post count on here, also MyHumax and AV forums.

Excluding AV forums (which do not appear to count posts) total is 21445.

And yes I re-iterate your post is a personal attack on a forum member, based on absolutely no knowledge. It would certainly break the posting rules on any forum that has decent moderation.

Even worse it added precisely nothing to the thread other than showing your bigoted attitude.

It was a question, not an assumption. But if buy a TV, Bluray, AV reciever and speakers is a large chunk of someones life savings I'd recommend keeping them safe for emergency funds due to needing money quickly. As obviously there are not much life savings to begin with.

It was a rhetorical question. Not sure how you deduced the OP's financial situation from a throw away remark. This isn't twitter or facebook

If you respond to a post it's supposed to help the OP in resolving the original question, not making completely unwarranted and groundless assertions with absolutely no background information.

How the OP spends his money is nothing to do with you, and he certainly does not have to respond to your insulting question.

At best it's a completely off topic post, the OP did not ask for financial advice of any sort, just for advice as to how to get the best value for money.

If you cannot see that, you should frankly restrict your posts to the actual topic of the thread.

I could well have saved the op spending all his life savings on a TV - he might thank me

Meanwhile, while you two contemplate and discuss, the OP still may be interested in a response......

I'd try an independent TV retailer (if any still exist) and see what price they can do for a decent purchase like this. But margins are slim on these items so don't expect £100's off, you may be disapointed..... but it's certainly worth asking for some discounted prices and see what you get offered.

I'm sure many don't realise that consumer electronics have fairly slim margins and unlike DFS or Wickes, it isn't possible to do 50% discounts on TV products, unless the shop wants to make a 35% loss

To graham - thank you. They have been good lads to me, they love tv and movies and so I am just giving a little back! Thx also for fighting my corner re. the other posts. This is what I would like to do for my boys. Thanks for all the advice you have given to me and other forum members!

Quite - margins on electicals of this nature are usually 10-20% - so not alot overall.

Most staff discounts from people I know who work in retail are in the 10-20% bracket as well.

So - on that basis, if you get 10%, you're doing well. If you get more than that then take the deal being offered as you're unlikely to improve on it.
