Moving house 2 cats

Hi there. Grateful for your advice.
We have a baby and 2 cats. The two cats don't get on particularly. The baby loves the cats. The cats aren't so fond of the baby. They run away from her. Both cats go outside. One
is a very nervous cat. Both hate travelling.

So we are moving house. From London to Milton Keynes. Plan was a couple of days before to take cats to vet and some anti anxiety medication and take them to a cattery whilst we move and initially unpack 3 to 4 days. But the move is happening in August. Catteries are full. Advice online is once you move to keep cat in a room once we arrive etc. But we have 2 cats. Anyway. Please help.

I would imagine they will be ok together in one room. They will be too scared and confused by whats going on to fight.

You only need to keep them in one room whilst you are unloading all the stuff. After that let them explore the house at their own pace. (they will probably sleep in the car baskets for the first night or two anyway)

I don't think it's a good idea to take them to a cattery and then to a new home anyway. I know you say the cats don't get on, but I'd still try them in a room together for the first few hours in the new home. You'd be surprised at how they can forget their differences in those circumstances!

I've moved several times with cats and they usually adapt better than we expect them to. Don't stress about it too much and you might find that they don't either. Good luck!

My parents moved from London to Huntingdon, we had two cats, one did not like the other. We kept them in one room upon arrival, and one became very aggressive to the other.

My advise is to keep them contained just for the duration of the furniture etc being delivered. Then open the door to the rest of the house and let them explore in their own time.

Obviously not the garden, that should come much later.

my sister moved from London to Cheltenham with 2 cats and a baby - the cats dont particularly like each other but will tolerate each other

they travelled in separate carriers in the back of the car and were quickly transported from car to new house and into a room at the top of the house with food, water and a litter tray whilst the movers brought all their stuff into the house

once the movers were gone, my sister just went up and open the door and left the cats to come down/explore of their own accord

I wouldnt advise a cattery either, I dont think they need the further upset of being moved from old home to a cattery to a new home - just take then straight to new home and let them adjust in their own time
