It's this simple, the FM referred to the music of the GB&U, you said about not wanting to be pedantic (which is now very funny) but that the film wasn't singing contest.
I'm saying the reference was to the music not singing.

Try "choral" and " the OK Corral". Of course I could have been even more pedantic about the OK Corral and the Good, the bad and the Ugly!
