In a shop that's no time at all, but on the Tube with many people waiting behind you, it feels like an eternity. If you 'pre-authorise', by either opening Wallet or double pressing the home button from the lock screen to bring up Apple Pay, then using Touch ID, you get a notice on the screen saying 'hold near reader to pay'. Then you have up to a minute to complete the transaction without having to use Touch ID again. This means that when you get to the gate, the process is the same as with a contactless card.

Hope this clarifies.”

You timed it too? I thought I was the only one that did that??? Hahaha
Yes, as you say, iOS9 improves the Apple Pay experience significantly .
Take phone out of pocket
Double tap & hold to open Apple Wallet (by which time the iPhone has ID'd your fingerprint (especially on the 6s),
Wave over the contactless terminal.
Job done.!!!

I just tried the double press thing for the first time. It's much quicker than I expected! Touch ID starts to work before Apple Pay appears, so the authentication is almost instant. By the time Apple Pay come up (bearing in mind it takes under a second), the screens is already on 'hold near reader to pay'.

There is no pre-authorisation. It is tokenisation, authoriation taking place once the token is accepted. What happens when you activate Apple Pay is Apple requests a token from the bank, that token gets stored in the NFC card.
Touching the card reader, that token gets sent by the card reader, alongside the standard crypto, the bank authorises it, the card reader confirms this with the NFC, then confirming to the bank that the transaction is complete.

Its very similar to a standard NFC really but with no ID available to the bank, something they wanted for their own security, I think claiming they have no way of contesting Apple chargebacks.

Any minor errors, maybe a likely software engineer more in the current, of integrity, like Roush or Psionic can come back more correct”

I do know how it works thanks. When you misuse the term 'NFC' so many times in a single paragraph it just demonstrates you own lack of understanding.

Saw an ad for this tonight. Looks slick but also, people waving a £600 phone around and then looking smug as they stroll off just makes you think 'that person is going to get mugged'. They need to be less smug. Cool though. Until you get mugged.

"Over time, the individual will become so adept at lying that it will be very difficult for others to determine if they are, in fact, telling the truth. There are no exact figures regarding the number of people that suffer from this disorder, but has been found to be equally common in men and women and usually becomes very apparent in the late teens.

The defining characteristics of compulsive lying disorder are:

The stories told are not entirely improbable and often have some element of truth. They are not a manifestation of delusion or some broader type of psychosis: upon confrontation, the teller can admit them to be untrue, even if unwillingly."

Apologies if this has been asked in this thread already but I use American Express. Some retailers still don't accept American Express so I was wondering if I add my American Express card to Apple Pay, will I then be able to use it in ALL retailers, regardless of whether they normally accept American Express? The only reason I ask is because online, some retailers don't accept American Express but if I use PayPal to pay, I can use it.

Well they said "imminently" but that was just over 2 months ago. Clearly "imminently" means something different to them.

I've set my Lloyds platinum debit card up with Apple Pay and just used it at McDonald's. All worked seamlessly. Also it seems Apple Pay is online as the transaction has been earmarked under pending transactions with online banking. When I use the card physically it takes a couple of days to come out and isn't earmarked.

However I used my contactless card at waitrose and all contactless payments were offline (didn't seek authorisation) but recently in the last couple of weeks all contactless payments seems to be seeking authorisation every time I used it at Waitrose (showing as pending transaction on the account). When I use the contactless card at another shop this is not earmarked against my account.

Are these terminals being upgraded or changed to seek authorisation all the time now? Does anybody know? Just out of curiosity.

If getting your iPhone out and double clicking the home button to use Apple lay is too slow. Use your Apple Watch, I use both but on your Apple Watch simply double click the side button and put your watch near the terminal and your done. I think it's the absolute fastest way to use NFC payments.

I reach into my pocket pull out my wallet open my wallet get my card out (can be fiddly if wallets full) put card next to terminal payment is taken put card back into wallet put wallet back in pocket. It can definately be done faster.

Another person who hasn't actually used Apple Pay with a watch so doesn't know what they are talking about. There's been quite a few of them on here lately.
