For anyone interested I made a little video clip, this is how long it takes to use Apple Pay on Apple Watch. (card expires very soon not that you can see any details anyway)

Can't watch via my iPhone as it requires Flash 9.

You can use Apple Pay within apps as well (although I don't think Amazon's UK app supports it yet, despite supporting Touch ID). It obviously isn't a contactless payment system within apps - you just use Touch ID to pay using the card details stored in Wallet.

Who said contact-less payment? I said Apple pay...and yes you can use Apple-pay on websites. I just assume everyone is tech savy I guess, I will explain better in future.

No need for the sarcasm. I haven't seen Apple Pay on a website yet.

Someone with 300 posts could learn a few manners perhaps.

If you point out any sarcasm I will apologies, and as for lack of manners..this is the post you are referring to... I actually apologised for not explaining myself clearly.

Just to clear up an error above, Apple Pay is NOT available on any website. It is only available to use in person in stores with compatible contactless card readers or via iOS apps available via Apple's App Store providing the app developer has used the appropriate Apple Pay routines. In-App Apple Pay requires an iPhone/iPad with Touch ID to complete a payment and hence Apple have locked down the service to apps only. You will not see it on any website.

I've used Apple Pay with my Starbucks app. Not sure I've seen it in the Amazon app, but don't use it very often.

There's a whole section on the App Store dedicated to apps currently offering Apple Pay within them. From Top Shop, Miss Selfridge, JD Sports to the Apple Store, Hungryhouse and Just Eat and loads more besides.

But I repeat, for the sake of clarity, these services require Touch ID and therefore are available on the dedicated apps only, not on the websites as a website can be accessed by any net connected device and Apple Pay in-app requires an iPhone with Touch ID. Someone above mentioned the Amazon website and Apple Pay.

had to use google to find this bloody thread

anyway, bit late to the party but did my first ever apple pay transaction today and wow!. I've been using my nationwide contactless card for a while and today was the first opportunity i'd had to try apple pay. the speed of the transaction is much, much quicker than the card. i'll certainly be looking to use it more often now.

Are you trying to say it does not verify? Non verification is the only possible way I can think of that it can be faster.
That sounds very unlikely.

Having just returned from a trip to Las Vegas I thought I'd share some findings of using Apple Pay abroad.

The US is somewhat behind the UK/Europe in terms of the card tech employed by the hundreds if not thousands of banks operating across the various states. The magnetic stripe is still prevalent. You still have to sign your signature. Chip enabled cards are only just starting to be rolled out and contactless terminals are hard to find.

Not only that but when you do find a contactless terminal you may find the retailer, such as CVS, has disabled all contactless payments due to having an agreement with MCX to offer CurrentC, a rival e-wallet solution.

Or if that isn't the case, Visa Europe cards won't work in the US via Apple Pay as Visa Europe doesn't support the magnetic stripe contactless protocols needed. MasterCard Europe cards will however work with Apple Pay in the US.

Throughout my week in Vegas I only got to Apple Pay three times. CVS readers work fine but, as above, decline all contactless payments. A vending machine selling refrigerated drinks did work fine contactlessly. And Skechers have had new card machines out in and they worked fine too. But the strip was bereft of contactless terminals. You'd have thought they'd do whatever they could to speed up getting your money!

Well it was in the post office and the transaction was indeed verified, so it might just have been me being slightly over excited at using a new 'toy'

I suppose if i paid attention it might be exactly the same speed, but to me it just did seem a tad quicker.

If you double click from the lock screen and have the phone in "payment mode" it is quicker than the card. The card takes a second to communicate while the phone seems to authorise as soon as it gets in range of the reader.

As I said, until you can get the same discounts on other cards, Oyster is the only choice.

Mind you, when we get the new Oyster system, weekly capping and other clever stuff will be possible on Oyster too.
Until I read your post just now, I didn't know that weekly capping was (currently) only available on contactless. I saw it on my statement last month for the first time, but assumed that It was available on Oyster too, so thank you.

It has a fairly standard NFC chip and antenna as far as I know, the main difference being Apples temporary tokenisation ,that also enabling Apple to take agents fees from your bank.

I'd expect the shop reader communication procedure to take the same tenth of a second.
There is no NFC tag info sharing/receiving ability, Apple preferring to market its iBeacon info sharing stuff instead.

Until you have actually personally experienced using both methods with the same readers I would suggest your statements are pretty baseless and irrelevant.
