Let’s have a look at our worthy winners shall we?
I'm interested in who people are voting for and why....
Danny: If you want a game player whose behaviour changes like the wind he is your man. Trolled Aisleyne on twitter but was all over her in the house. Attempts to be the voice of reason until he starts aggressively shouting “Shut up!” at Chloe/ Helen/ Christian/ Harriet/ etc like a yob. Similar hypocrisy includes tweets announcing his disdain for “Fat birds chatting me up” before telling the house he does not like to hear people being criticised for being fat. He looked a likely candidate for alpha male and working class hero when Marc entered and started insulting Chloe, though it was only a matter of days before Marc emasculated him and since then his arguments have been chosen based on which ones make him look good for the cameras. When Nick & Harry were separated and Jack asked if Harry could move to allow Nick to shower, Danny rudely said “No he can wait!” before Harry even got a chance to speak. Later that day when Harry tried to defend Chloe against Jack “Danny started yelling at Harry for “getting involved”, while getting involved himself. Does he even know whose side he is on? Of course he does – Danny’s side. His links to previous BB contestants and members of the production team (including the presenter) have also been noticed by the public and not done him any favours. He has done three or four reality TV shows before this highlighting his desperation for the spotlight. If this sandwich throwing, water chucking, pizza box hitting game player is your winner – vote for Danny
Joel: Why have a reasonable discussion when you can go for the full on character assassination (see the debate task), just as long as you do it in a reasonable tone of voice, joe public won’t clock a dam thing. Aside from the hypocrisy of saying the money should be the winners only before and after spending £2500 of the prize fund on a pizza. Let’s look at the way Sam was evicted and Joel’s part:
“I am NOT taking part in this”
“I refuse to do this”
“I don’t want Chloe to go”
“We are choosing Sam”
All in the space of 30 seconds! Granted there was a lot of pushing from Danny who didn’t want to look bad so manipulated the ever competitive Joel into standing up, but his resistance, or lack of was laughable.
Most of Joel’s manipulation comes from putting words into people’s mouths and twisting things e.g.:
Joel: Marc, do you behave like this when you are at work?”
Marc: No
Joel: So you admit you’re fake!
Let’s not also forget the hotel task where he treated people like slaves excusing it as being in character (Aisleyne and Danny were in the same role and did not see the need to behave that way) culminating in throwing pastries at Jack’s head for a rule break – shortly before Joel was seen buying his £2500 pizza!
If this year’s ultimate manipulator and slimy tory is your idea of a winner – vote for Joel.
Chloe: Little Miss Hypocrite seemed to be sailing through to the final before cash bomb week when her holier than thou attitude brought the facade tumbling down like Helen’s knickers. First after being told that any talking in the nominations cash-bomb would result in the prize fund being reduced, she has a mad rant causing nearly 90 grand to be lost (apparently Sam and Danny spoke, but nowhere near as much as Chloe). She then spends the rest of the week lecturing people about not being selfish and not spending money before pocketing 5 grand for herself and expecting everyone to be happy for her. This is after she refused Jack a phone call from his dad before even consulting him (even though he did say no when asked), lecturing Jack on not spending the money on football results, and telling people not to give up on the cash holding task in the garden with a mouthful of pizza. If you want a hypocrite to win – vote for Chloe.
Jack: On the one hand anyone who is prepared to massage John Mercruic deserves a cash prize of some kind! On the other, Jack is one of the biggest masses of contradictions. His main meltdowns are about being nominated. Specifically that peoples reasons for nominating him are stupid and feeble. He waxes lyrical on this before delivering even more feeble reasons for nominating others himself. He has no qualms about revealing his own selfishness. Nearly spending five grand on football results and Um Bongo (which tastes foul) just because Joel did something similar, agreeing eventually that it’s the wrong thing to do, then trying to bag 5 grand for himself which he lost - Only to take an even bigger prize later. Admittedly he turned down the car but this was because he had just been told he was “the public’s winner” and any gambler who can see £150,000 in their near future is going to turn down a £30,000 car in their present. Since taking the prize he has undergone a series of humiliations from tanning to bathing in fish guts to shaving part of his head. One could almost say he earnt his prize, but has he earnt the ultimate prize? One the one hand he does seem like a team player, on the other, he acts like a spoilt brat if he cannot get his own way. His two faced attitude towards Sam sums him up for me. All smiles to her face and insults her as soon as she left the room before his justification “I don’t care, I hate her”. If you want a spoilt two faced baby who exhibits double standards as your winner – vote for Jack!
Nick: I had Nick down as a potential winner quite early on. Kind of felt sorry for him having no friends and I appreciated his being honest about his disinterest in getting a job and trolling people on twitter. However he mutes himself with love-ins. When the series starting if you were to have to name someone to be bed hopping it’d not be Nick; and we’ve seen him linked to Jade, Harry-Amelia, and Nikki Graham (who has since shown herself up to be a right cow on Bots). He divides opinion because there are those who would agree he did not stick up for Harry when she was being bullied by Marc and Helen, and those who think she is going off on one at Nick unfairly (even though she has since said this was bad editing and only ever had one argument with him the whole time). From what I have seen in the week before she left, Nick and Joel seemed to be actively provoking her into shouting and having a rant because they knew she would do it. Not the behaviour of a supporting boyfriend Nick, though maybe they serve each other right for allowing this treatment and then going back to bed with each other at the end of the day. Harry seemed to be consistent in her morals regarding the money in cash-bomb week. In fact she was probably the only one. I was glad when she dealt with Nick’s betrayal. He essentially bought his way into the final (maybe it is this same rich-kid mentality that allows him not to work for a living), cheating the public out of the opportunity to vote. The silly thing is there is no way he would have gone anyway, but he did himself no favours with this. In many ways the only difference between Nick cheating his way to the final and Helen Wood’s cheat to the final last year is that Helen didn’t choose it, it was bestowed on her by someone else. Nick chose to cheat. If you want a cheat as your winner – vote for Nick.
Cristian: By default this leaves Cristian as one of the more least offensive housemates – or is he? BB should really be won by someone who has been themselves for the whole time. Plenty of people in this series have done that: Adjoa, Aaron, Sarah, Harry-Amelia, and Sam. Some may not have been liked but no one can deny they were not true to themselves. Cristian however has sparked debate due to his changes and switches in personality. It seemed he intended to float through to the final like driftwood via the background, until his nomination. Then he became Mini Marc for a while treating people like crap (Putting his foot on someone’s back when they are doing press-ups), backtracking on his flirting with Jade, and snogging Jasmine Lennard for airtime (his funeral!). This would seem to be the real Christian. From the start he seemed to think he was above it all revealing he felt he should have been on Celebrity Big Brother instead. His attitude towards gay people is questionable too; on launch night he was asked if he was gay and he reacted as though he was asked “Are you Jimmy Saville?”. When finding out he had to share a bed with Nick he was also expressing dissatisfaction, while Nick was clearly comfortable enough with his sexuality not to give a crap, Christian was going around the housemates insisting “Two guys don’t share a bed!”. However later on he seemed to state that he thought Aaron “was okay” and is happy to share baths and be serenaded to from up and coming queen Joel. So who knows? Cristian would not be an ideal winner but a default one. If you want driftwood who tries to hide their true colours as your winner, vote for MC Cornflake.

) is indeed my default winner but that is the only way I am now looking at this, ie the least-worst approach. I have more against some of the other HMs winning than others but won't get into that here. My only caveat with some of the character flaws given is that I still think they are just that, flaws of personality/temperament/background etc, & therefore I'm slightly of the more to be pitied than blamed mentality. Slightly. I certainly don't have a deserving-winner candidate and mainly, would just have loved things to have been left to run their proper course from the off so that all the usual human-experiment subtleties could have evolved properly and seen where that took the development of the series. I'm not sure how much difference it would have made but we'll never know.
