It's not nice, but if he mentioned it whist in the house to another - then he's only got himself to blame. IF not, then how could it be proven as true, it would be hearsay e.g. if relayed by the girl in question it could be utter lies.

I assume he spoke to someone else in the house OR maybe told a BB producer before entering.

They shouldn't be receiving it either. And for the further reason, that if they had spent all their time exposing bits of HMs pasts in previous series, then given the calibre of contestants there wouldn't have been any time left for anything else. Unless 1 HM is a saint and all the others are not, you are back to a level playing field once you've finished dishing, so it's a bit pointless anyway.

Excellent point. That's been what I've been most annoyed at this series - they all think they are saints and are so moral and judgmental about those around them. Joel & Cristian being the absolute worst. The way Cristain painted Jade that week she went was gross, going on like she was all over him - "the inside of my leg... that's too far!".... And then Joel going on about her "morality" and Helen being "blasphemous"... Then you have Chloe who has a sore neck from holding up her imaginary halo, and Jack who thinks he's been taking care of everyone, and Danny's twitter filled with insults and hatred ... Give me a break! They're awful and false.

If people were honest about themselves it might be different, but as they are this series I am glad they are being exposed.

So if someone has skeletons in their closet and they choose to go on BB it's considered unfair for those skeletons to be revealed to the public? Surely he (Cristian) has opted to reveal this information at some stage, knowing that it may reach a wider audience?

If he did indeed blackmail someone, why have they not said so? Why have they instead worded it the way they have? I mean, it couldn't be to plant the seeds in people's mind and to stretch the truth to make Cristian look bad, could it?

That is blackmail by anyone's definition. Surely even Cristian's mother would agree with that?

Well this is what confuses me, how can it be claimed that it had been worded to sound malicious?
He either used the threat of a sex tape to blackmail a girlfriend he wanted to get rid of, or he didn't.

I need the alternative explanation which explains how it wasn't malicious.

If it was the case that it wasn't a malicious threat at all, and that it was a mutual agreement with them both that they couldn't carry on because of the tape, then why isn't anyone putting forward this explanation?

Did they use the word blackmail? No, that's my point. Instead, they've done exactly what Cristian said. They've worded it maliciously, in a way that stirs trouble. This thread and some of the replies prove that.

I suppose it could be argued that they equally agreed to end their relationship because of the potential of the sex tape getting out. But even that doesn't make sense because surely most sex tapes are published after people have split up as some form of revenge aren't they?

Yes, they may have done. That is my point. And that's what's malicious about it. They've not flat out said that's what he said or did, they've dropped the seed and worded it in a way that only suggests it, which then causes people to speculate and jump to conclusions. And without knowing all the facts, I don't think that is fair.

If it was a one-sided situation where Cristian used the tape to end his relationship with someone by threatening to show it, then I think it makes little difference if the word 'blackmail' was used or not.

Whichever way you look at it, it really is a tacky, shitty thing for BB to do. It really is a low shot and cheapens the show to a level even lower than where it stood before. It';s hardly surprising why the show has put so many viewers off it for so many years.

Firstly I would suggest that most sex tapes are never published. Of the ones that are, most that I've heard of are 'leaked' by fame hungry zelebs. The rest, which are published maliciously after a relationship has ended, are now deemed illegal. Blackmail is also illegal, of course.

The point of keeping everything in the House and excluding outside information is context. Even if it's edit driven things that happen in the House tend to have some context; whether it be through humour, anger, passion etc. Throwing in a tweet or comment from the outside without context doesn't give the person much of a chance to defend themselves and results in judgements based on very little knowledge.
