Series 12 Opinions?

I've stated before how bad I thought Series 12 was, but I wanted to know the general consensus on it. It didn't seem to get a good reception, but maybe that's just me.

I'll give Series 12 2-stars, which is very bad for a full series. I hated it, but I'd only give it 1 if there was literally nothing good about it.

I don't think I'd give any series a 5/5, there's always something that annoys me, but I don't think I'd give any series other than Series 1 less than a 3/5 either...

I'm rating it compared to other seasons of the same show, rather than television in general, but yeah, I'd say it was definitely a subpar run. Dry hosting, mostly pretty dull front-runners (with the two most interesting ones blown up before the final), with some likable middle-orderers who were too transparently hamstrung by major issues to really get invested in them getting to the end (Allison's weight, Sunetra's scheduling issues, Steve's multiple injuries), pretty much no memorable pro dances, a bit too much unfun tabloid bollocks (STEVE AND OLA HATE ONE ANOTHER! KRISTINA IS A MAN TEEF! SURPRISE CAROLINE IS A TRAINED DANCER!) and a couple of "comedy dancers" hamstrung into the role too hard and too fast. Judy was fun though

I'm deducting a point for the best dancer not making the final.

I'm deducting another point for ridiculous overmarking towards the end (I know it happens every year).

I'm deducting yet another point for Donny Osmond.

I'm adding a Brucie Bonus point for no Forsyth at last.

Not even I'd give it 5/5...

(I would've if Sunetra'd made the final, though).

Because, regardless of the fact that it definitely wasn't perfect (not least due to the fact that the last two shows suffered slightly because of Pixie's exit), I still found it thoroughly entertaining television and loved watching it every week from beginning to end.

Disagree with you but never mind.

5/5 is a more unlikely mark to give than 2/5.

I gave it 3 stars. Series 11 is my all time least favourite series but I think series 12 was an improvement. I thought it had some of the same problems as series 11 ( ie a yawn inducing 'novice' storyline which was banged on about ad naseum, blatant manipulations, poor judging), but I've given it 3 stars because I thought more of the cast was likeable in series 12 and it did at least have a few viable male contenders - although they got rid of the one that could most likely have won (Jake) before the finals because he wasn't on the tour, and you eventually knew both Mark and Simon couldn't win because they'd both been in the dance off 3 times, but I enjoyed Simon as a contestant so I didn't mind him getting to the finals even if it was at the expense of Pixie. I also thought the pro dances were an improvement on series 11.

Given it's an opinion, surely there's no such thing as an "unlikely mark"?

I've gone for 3 as well. It was just a thing that happened. It wasn't the best, but it certainly wasn't my worst (that honour still goes to the series long sulk-fest that was series 7).

Oh I still shiver with rage thinking about S7. It was a disaster

It should have been

1) Ricky and Natalie
2) Zoe and James
3)Ali and Brian
4)Jade and Ian
5)Laila and Anton
6)Chris and Ola
7)Phil and Katya
8)Natalie and Vincent

Then everybody else. But I do think Martina Hingis would have done OK. It might have been best if she competed about now as I think she is in a happier place right now compared to back then

But for whatever reason Ricky, Ali and Zoe didn't appeal as personalties - I didn't dislike any of them, I found them nice enough, but I remember sometimes feeling bored by their interviews. Ricky was a fantastic dancer - there's no doubt about it, but he failed to project a personality. As for Zoe and Ali's dancing - I found them pleasant enough to watch as performers but nothing particularly memorable that I'd want to watch again.

I loved it, was a lot of fun, the cast was great and I loved Caroline.

If it hadn't been for Gregg Wallace and Mark Wright, I might have stretched to four stars and although I didn't mind Caroline - I can't say I thought she was an outstanding winner I'm afraid - for someone who has dance training and also did some ballroom/latin on 'dancing with wheels' - and before someone says I know it's different dancing with someone disabled, but I think she'd have been able to get a bit of feel for it when she did that show, I was rather disappointed by some of her performances on strictly (mostly the ballroom), but she looked like she has having a great time so I guess that's why she engaged the public and I was happy enough to see Pasha finally get his hands on the glitter ball.

Also I was seriously unimpressed with both Ola and Brendan's attitude last series and not forgetting some of the awful music choices/themes so I think 3 stars is about right.

Caroline for me was the weakest winner in terms of Ballroom we've ever had; even Chris Hollins and Darren Gough had a better hold than her. She may've had gorgeous lyrical lines but her best Ballroom was her Foxtrot, and it was an 8.5/10 at best.

Her Latin, however, was some of the best.

Yeah I remember enjoying a few of her Latin dances - I think that's where she was really able to express herself and let loose.

Most of her ballroom dresses were awful too - the one time they did give her a decent dress she nearly trips over it it's shame that AS might have been the one really decent ballroom she did if that hadn't happened.

Me too..........and my little grand-daughter loved it too.
Great.

Why are you deciding what posters should do?

Because Series 11 was good enough to keep me watching If this series isn't good I won't watch at all.

I'm not.

Get your facts right.

I do wonder how Series 7 would have turned out had Jade not picked up an injury. I think she was gaining popularity as time went on, meaning she could have been a contender - and less controversial winner than Chris - by the end.

Last year was probably the weakest series for me simply as it was very dull. Saying that series 6 and 7 were painful as well, series 6 lifted by the farce of the semi final 'result'. I remember the meltdown on the forum due to that.

I scored it 2 - didn't hate it. Overall, I don't like the direction the producer has been taking the show, so my score is influenced by that, and would have resulted in a score of 1 if I was only considering that. I have a long list of things which I don't like in that regard.

Pluses for series 12?
I'd long advocated having Steve Backshall on the show so I really enjoyed the prospect of him and Ola working together. I still like them both and was surprised how it worked out between them. So although it was not the result I wanted to see, it is still interesting as you learn things about someone or have questions that you still don't know the answer to - or both.
Judy Murray. Seemed like a battleaxe when she was watching Andy and Jamie play. Started off as the non-contributor with Anton doing nearly all of the partnership, then started to loosen up and her fun personality came out and she became one of the biggest reasons to watch the series.
Likewise - Tim was a surprising character and interesting.
Alison was good fun and I liked her partnership with Aljaz - who is climbing in my estimation each series.
Some of the better dancers were less interesting, but at least Caroline enjoyed dancing Latin and that was obvious.

Majority of people rating it a 3, in the middle. When I saw the cast I groaned but actually ended up quite enjoying it. Like many, disappointed that the best dancer and the best showman didn't make the final.

I'd have given series 11 a four, loved Natalie's dancing, although she was a ringer. 2013 was my favourite series, but not that popular with others it seems.
