Retrieving recordings from Combo Recorder HDD
After many years of excellent service, my Toshiba RDXV59DT Combo VHS/DVD/HDD Recorder has started playing up - it looks like the PSU has become intermittent (the unit keeps turning itself off and when switched back on only stays on for a few seconds or sometimes a minute. I know the 250GB SATA HDD is OK and I have about 40 TV programmes recorded on it that I would like to retrieve. I removed this HDD from the Toshiba and connected it to my Windows 7 (64 bit) PC as an additional internal HDD. The BIOS recognizes the HDD as 250GB (correct) but Windows does not recognize the File System on the HDD and says the Drive needs formatting!! Obviously, I didn't allow it to format which would wipe the recordings.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could retrieve these programmes (without buying another Toshiba!) Keith |

It could be some flavour of "ext" file system as used by Linux. That does seem to be a fairly common option in PVRs.
You can get ext drivers for Windows that will allow you to read the disk. This might suggest something you can use http://www.howtogeek.com/112888/3-wa...-from-windows/ However even if you do manage to read the disk that does not guarantee you can view the recordings. They could be encrypted so more or less useless without the original recorder. |
