BB is getting too, nasty, mean, negative and sadistic
Times they are a changing and BB is following the trend for nasty and negative TV. It spills over into the forum too with vile comments about miserable HMts. The tasks that Jack had to do for pathetic 1k or 2k were copy cats of I'm a celebrity etc. It wasn't entertaining in the slightest. The total humiliation of poor Jack was nasty to,watch and remined me of Middle Ages witch hunt. I wish he'd told them to stuff it. They offered the money in the first place and no it wasn't stealing at all. I switched off after 10 mins.
If that's all they have to,offer. Plus the stupid he said, she said snippets. And which HMt is the most selfish and which HMt is the biggest game player. Total crap. I mean really. Like people say every year who is running the show now, holiday work experience kids ffs. |

It's primarily why I've all but ditched the show now.
The BB I liked was humourous .. this show is downright mean spirited.

It's a bit of a downer. Moments like tonight's licking popcorn task are the types of things that should be shown more. More of that and less of the 'who said this? ' tasks.
Best shopping task was the hotel one. Bar the guests, it was the best because they didn't need to stir trouble. It provided funny moments and rows not manipulated by BB. |

The hms all crumbled or rose during the task. No meddling. |

Ch5 should rename the show, it's no longer the BB that anyone who's been watching for more than a few years, remembers.
The premise of the show was to take X number of 'ordinary' people, shut them away with no outside information or contact of any kind, give them tasks to fill their days, and watch. If Ch5 want to continue with the show, they should change the name and the basic premise, then everyone will know what they're getting, viewers and HMs alike. |

Its depressing to say the least. Where are the laugh out loud moments? In fact where are any emotions at all?
I find myself totally uninterested in the housemates and since channel 5 took it on I have failed to emotionally invest (for want of a better word) in any of them because I have never really got to know any of them. Or if I have then its all been negative stuff. Partly due to the lack of live feed we never really see them have a conversation, its all edited stuff that most of the time seems out of context with what is actually going on. Ch5 need to get their act together and look back on some of the old Ch4 stuff to see how things evolve if you just leave them be and not cause contrived conflict. Failing that they could come to my office and see how relative 'strangers' interact on a daily basis. How we all have a laugh, irritate the life out of each other and generally just get on with it without any intervention. Actually, I think the viewers may enjoy that more. |

I actually agree op...Just think back to the very first BB when Nick was removed for trying to influence noms by writing down names..NOW its no holes barred. BB actively sets up situations to cause conflict....Thing is, when you drop the bar that low..where can they go from here?

BB has always been nasty...
the early BB on C4 had tasks that lasted over night, designed to encourage arguments through sleep deprivation and thus setting people or their cliques against the others. i really wonder how you missed this... or were you watching the gunge clowns in the highlights and the hours of bland talk (often replaced with bird noises when the talk was about 3rd parties) and were distracted from what was actually happening... tasks specifically designed to trigger reactions from the casted housemates who had specific exaggerated traits - because that is what you were actually watching but it seems only saw the prancy dance... BB5 (10 years ago!) did not just suddenly have "fight night" it was after weeks of task build up that ensured people actually hated each other. BB has not changed, other than the length of time shown down to the controversial core of the show. |

But it was over a period of time and it was interspersed with good times, laughter (and arguments) and some funny tasks.
Recently it has all been conflict, outside influence and very little of the laughter that came in the earlier series. Quote:
The sleep depravation task was another one with potential to cause conflict but only if the hm's allowed it to, which makes the viewer see how a hm would act under different circumstances. That is surely what BB is about?
the only thing that has changed is the highlights edit. it no longer has to aim at competing with saturday early evening family shows with a bit of laughing and gunge, but instead spends the 40 minutes of the 24 hours (that means they show only 3% of the day! and even then they show even less than that because they "repeat" events shown by showing the housemates talking about what happened).. no, its not "surely" what BB is about... it is now what BB has always been about and it is some viewers who have surely got the wrong comprehension of what it was in the past. what some people remember of the show is the edit they were shown... they never understood what it was going on in the show.... those people are better off watching structured scripted shows like towie or geordie shore - they want a happy story with smiling faces, so why bother with anything that actually happens, script it all (where the reality actors just add some of their own improvisation around the soundbites they are given in situations they are given to act out).. BB is a game show, and like all games shows it is structured to entertain - and it has to move its edit to what the mass watchers want not the minorities (ever thought the reason the happy clappy edit you seem to prefer was how it was on some of the days versions in the past... your want was the fashion for tv then, not now). it also needs to adjust for competing with shows that have come since and either taken bits from bb and added new things or just produced new gimmicks that have changed the "appetite" of viewers it is not and never has been "random people watching" that would not be a show that has a second series, it would be a one off documentary. everything changes, and when people get shown the old they normally think "oh, thats not what i actually want to see anymore, it looks so old" - the "past" is done - every tv show, hell, everything sold to consumers including soup changes its packing, changes its ingredients, changes the way it is marketed because to stay the same means death. |

What we're served now is completely different, there is constant interference from BB akin to poking the HMs with a sharp stick. Over the last 15 years many more reality shows have been made and each new programme needs to up the anti to attract viewers. BB was never in that league, wasn't trying to appeal to that core audience, but now it's joined their ranks. That said, I'm not in their target audience bracket, so unsurprisingly, I find that Ch5 BB is no longer for me. |

There are degrees of 'nasty'. Tasks which were designed to set HMs against each other and test their endurance is part of the original premise, it created situations where interaction was allowed to develop organically, rather than in a full on, contrived manner.

I totally agree with this, after last year I vowed never to watch again but i did the fatal thing of seeing who was going in.I have stuck with it but after this series has finished so have iI. I am disgusted with the way channel 5 and the other housemates have treated Jack these last few day. I have watched BB since the start but channel 5 has ruined it.

You are as entitled to your opinion as anyone else tigerlily so you should continue posting. This place can be great fun and you can avoid members you dont like by putting them on ignore and interact with the ones you like. |

BIB - I'm not either, and maybe therein lies the problem. We are just too old for BB
![]() ![]() I do get orangeballoons point but, like you I feel the interference is worse than ever, or maybe just far more obvious and less subtle than the channel 4 days. In the days when we had LF we could usually see situations building and we saw a lot of the resolution too, although I'm aware that we never saw or heard everything - but we saw enough to make sense of the general life of the house. It's the constant stirring and putting doubt into their minds via outside influences - allowing people to visit and drop poison in their wake so that HMs are left wrong footed and with no recourse. Showing them tweets from random members of the public who have the luxury of spitting out their thoughts with no responsibility of any kind. For Cristian to have to answer the question 'did you kiss Jasmine for air time' for instance is also ludicrous - from what I saw Cristian had very little choice in that brief encounter. Purposely allowing the HMs to hear the crowd noise on eviction nights caused a big enough stir in it's day - compared to the goading we now experience, it was insignificant. |
