Police in Soaps
Have you noticed that over the years the writers/producers of ED, CS and EE still cannot come up with coppers who act and sound convincing? They really were awful in ED tonight. Since when did the police who have arrived on the scene in a car carry a helmet? They weren't bobbies on the beat; they would have had flat caps.

I could write a book on the incompetence of Yabbie Creek police!
Not to mention Albert Square's Keeble. Constantly telling Emma off for being crap yet Emma solved the case last December. It's now July and Keeble is still nowhere near the truth. |

I agree. It's all the soaps. Even HO. All the police are thick. But that makes good TV doesn't it?

Obviously the writers of Corrie and Emmerdale have an issue with our police force as the soap coppers are always depicted as bungling incompetent morons that couldnt catch a cold in winter. That twit yesterday that was taken in by Carlyvile, who just pretended to be someone else and off they went - doh - it doesnt happen on Police Interceptors!!!

Soap Police - they deserve a comedy series all of their own

Hollyoaks has the worst police, constantly arresting the wrong people for absolutely no reason/with no evidence.

I like PC Swirling in Emmerdale. He's the type of guy who knows the locals and has a bit of compassion and common sense, but knows when there's trouble afoot. An old fashioned polis
The CID in ED aren't up too much and the CPI aren't always on top of the game. Would Victoria's case have gone to court when the only witness had a head injury and couldn't remember the facts? ![]() Although given the current state of Police Scotland, maybe it's realistic

Last time I saw a policeman wearing an actual helmet was when I lived and worked in London. Here in deepest Essex they all ride around in cars and wear flat hats. The coppers in ED last night just looked ridiculous.

The Aussie soaps aren't much better but I often find the English soaps to be very disrespectful to the police force.

I think River City does its crime stories well, although theres too many of them, because we see the investigation and Will and D.I Donald are regular characters with Will living in Shieldinch. so we see them get things right, make mistakes and get hauled over the coals
