BBC Iplayer problem on Android app sync issues
jlighthi
16-07-2015
Hi there

Can anyone help and Iam not sure this is the right place. Recently my iplayer app starts fine and then after a couple of seconds the sound and video go out of sync. This happens on both live and download though I usually download. I have tried uninstallign and reinstalling but there is nothing I can do. The sound seems to be a couple fo seconds or so ahead of the picture. It is infuriating and I cn't find anything anywhere on the internet to help. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and previously it worked fine.

Thanks

Does this happen when you are using a rock solid strong wi-fi connection or only when using an iffy mobile connection?

Rock solid Virgin fibre optic connection but as I said I usually download at home using this and watch outside the home.

I've just tested iPlayer on my Android phone, I'm not seeing any of the issues you mention, tried live and a download.

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the app?

Yes as I said I did all that and still the same. Very frustrating. I realise others aren't haveing this problem.

Can anyone suggest what I do next?

Not sure it's any help for downloading and then watching but I've seen this problem intermittently along with poor picture quality on the I player app across 3 Samsung galaxy phones and on my android TV box. Haven't tried it for a while but a solution I found was to watch Iplayer via the Internet browser on the phone, I've had better picture quality and sound sync that way.

BBC iPlayer is actually designed to work well even on the ropiest of connections. Of course it can't work miracles, but it's part of a BBC commitment to ensure the app is accessible as possible.

But it could well be a bug, especially as the app was updated not so long ago.

Hi. So why is it only on my phone and not on others?

Thanks

Have you posted a comment on the Play store? I don't know proactive the BBC is on responding, but they'll then know the exact version and device you have.

Of course you don't know it's just on your phone. Again, check the comments on the Play store and you'll likely find others who report the same, and perhaps some that suggest a fix.

(Seems from a quick glance that there are a few people reporting problems)

Plus from the app description; 'As ever please send any feedback to @bbciplayer on Twitter or facebook.com/bbciplayer.'

I'm not having any issues, and have the newest version of the app (4.9.0.259).

I've seen this on iPad and PS3 as well. Our DSL is usually about 1 - 1.5 though so put it down to that.

What else is running on the phone? Do you still have a problem if you reboot the phone and do nothing else but use iPlayer?
