It seems Robert won't be able to stay in the village much longer as all his lies and crimes appear close to being exposed, and next week he considers killing Aaron and actually shoots Paddy! Chrissie will also want revenge too. Such a shame as I have really enjoyed this complicated version of Robert - regardless of the inherent bi-phobia in the writing. I hope they can work it realistically for him to stay - will be hard though. Thoughts?

I hope not. If only because for all his evil deeds he's a great watch and Ryan Hawley is great in the role. Be a real waste to see him go so soon.

I really hope he stays, not sure i can see him going just yet, I don't think the truth about Katie will come out for a while, I reckon Aaron will only know the truth.

They're not gonna pass up the opportunity for Katie's death reveal and they're not gonna pile that on now when there's so much going on. I think he'll be around for another few months at least if I'm honest.

Hawley had been outstanding in the role; I personally hope not but it is difficult to see a way after this. ......unless certain people are killed off next month of course.....

I think he'll be around for a while yet for the same reason as some other FMs have said - the reveal about Katie's death. They'll do that separately to the other big stuff - it's too big to be caught up in all that, at least I hope that's what happens. I agree with the comments about Ryan Hawley - he's brilliant in the role.

They've written the character into a corner, he killed Katie, hired a hit man to kill Chas, had Laurence kidnapped, attempted to kill Paddy, threatened to kill Leo and Rhonna and now
Spoiler
will hold Aarron hostage
shows he cares for no one but himself and has no redeeming qualties. He either needs to be killed or go to jail, I don't think they can redeem him at this point.

He is irredeemable but I do think he will survive this summer of explosion. I think he will be around until Emmerdale's anniversary week when all the Katie stuff will come out, along with whatever else he gets up to in the coming weeks.

If Kate Oates and her team have brought back a legacy character, purely to cause a year of holy hell then see him killed off, I will be FUMING and I mean literally FUMING!!!!!

The character is more than capable of being redeemed, he's got nothing on Tracy Barlow and she's already halfway there (IMO).

He's a great character played by a very capable actor, it will be a travesty if he leaves.

If it is beyond their control and the actor has decided to leave, then he should be written out. Not killed off. The Sugdens ARE Emmerdale, they were its founding family. Turning one into a total psycho and then killing him all for 12 months of sensationalism would be utterly ridiculous.

★★...★★: Yep, and I think he definitely will be. I've been negative about his chances of survival in the past but I feel the complete opposite now I think the 'summer stunt' will be his big moment to shine! They often portray him as being physically weak and a coward and I think he will prove people wrong(especially Cain, Chas and Aaron).

She hasn't brought back a legacy character. She has introduced a new completely detestable character and called him Robert Sugden
Robert was a bad lot, yes, but not as downright psychopathic and rotten through and through as this character is. This is not Jack's son or Annie's grandson.

I hope he gets a horrible death.

Lets hope not he is the only decent thing in ED right now.

You say potato, I say potarto. Personally I love the reboot of Robert Sugden, I think he's brought about so many great stoylines not only for himself but many other characters.

I wouldn't care if they left him as the village villain, but if he stays I imagine he will be toned down and developed.

Characters like Robert can always be redeemed in soaps - usually by pushing them to rock bottom. The easiest way to do this would probably be to have him suffer some kind of horrific injury in the summer disaster and really push him to the absolute brink.

Agreed.

I am enjoying seeing Ryan Hawley in action, but I think he could be gone after the inevitable Katie reveal. Yes, Carl King got away with killing his dad for years, but I think Robert might get found out by the end of this year: cue a major showdown between him and Andy.

Having a memory block, but does anyone other than Aaron know about Katie's death...I want to say Chas but now I'm not so sure

I hope not Robert is probably the best thing about the show atm and Ryan Hawley is doing a superb job. It would be incredibly short sighted of them to bring back a character who is so entertaining and has so much potential and write him out within a year. Especially given the dead wood in the cast being handed out new contracts. Also once you sink so slow, so quickly the only way to go is up really.

Robert is a ruthless selfish swine but I can't help but like him, judge me if you want I don't really care

I don't know why FM's think his time might be up. The show has become a completely ridiculous far fetched farce so this producer will continue to do whatever she wants with this completely unbelievable riduculously far fetched panto villian. Before he goes I fully expect him to turn Cain gay, marry Edna and end up having a sex change. All mundane stuff in KO's twisted vision of ED.
